Sadly, we were ripped off my Motorzone
We purchased a family car from Motorzone for £3,699 and have had nothing but problems. We feel completely ripped off. When we went to pick the car up there the a/c wasn't working, they took it back and topped up the a/c unit. We had a 6 month service so that the warranty was valid and garage told us we needed to change the cam belt - fair enough it was ten years old and these things need doing at this age. 8 months after buying the car with a 2 year warranty we had a major issue. The ABS pump failed and needed replacing. We got a quote from our garage and it was in the region of £1,400 for a new part and labour to fit it. Despite having fully serviced the car within 6 months so the warranty was valid, this repair was not covered in the warranty. I called Motorzone to ask whether they could assist in anyway, the guy was incredibly unhelpful and laughed at me when I said that we had only just bought the car from them. His exact words were "8 months is a VERY long time to have had a secondhand car" and that there was nothing that he could do. He was very rude and dismissive. So we had no choice but to spend a lot of money on a big job. I didn't write the review at the time, because you know what, shit happens. Maybe I caught him on a bad day, maybe we have just been unlucky and they didn't know there was an issue with the car. A year on more problems. When we bought the car there was a smell of oil/petrol. I remember being told the car had just had an MOT/service and it was usual for there to be a bit of a smell. The smell came and went, but never completely disappeared. It seemed to be more noticeable with the heating on, but it was only a mild smell so we put it to the back of our minds. It increasingly got worse over time and then we had issues with the oil light. Sometimes coming on, we topped up the oil and all was well, several months later the same again. This time my husband did a full oil change, again no problem for weeks, then the light comes on and off and we realised the smell was so much worse. To cut a long story short and another trip to the garage - the oil cooler was leaking on to the exhaust, it explained the oil light coming on and off and the smell that we had been experiencing since the day we bought the car. Again, these things can happen, put it down to bad luck, give Motorzone the benefit of the doubt that they didn't know the oil was dripping on to the exhaust and causing the terrible smell. Final straw has come when we realise the a/c is not working again, go to the garage to top it up and they tell us the a/c unit is totally full of holes, absolutely no point in topping up as it won't last - the unit needs fully replacing. This is when we finally admit to ourselves that we have been totally ripped off - and Motorzone knew about the issues when they sold us the car. Quite possibly all the issues, if not at least some of them - but they topped up the a/c when we took the car on the first day and we complained that it wasn't cooling, there is no excuse they would have seen the problem with the a/c unit being full of holes, they wouldn't have all appeared in one year. So our family car has cost us an absolute fortune, we feel totally ripped off and as soon as we had left with out car the niceties ended. They were rude and unhelpful and washed their hands with us. The 2 year warranty was useless.
