A very mixed experience - be careful !
I had a very mixed experience with AVS. Ultimately, I was lucky to pick up a very well looked after (by the previous owner) vehicle but their customer care and consideration for safety has left me disappointed and more than a little annoyed. I had a small issue with a dent that wasn't mentioned before i bought the car but in fairness they did agree to pay for this to be removed by a local dent master. Unfortunately, that's where the good news ends - when i got home and had the car inspected it was pointed out that the tyres were 13 years old !!! I had missed this as the car was low mileage and the tyres had plenty of tread on them. However, AVS stated as this is not (currently) an MOT failure they were not prepared to replace or even contribute towards the cost of replacement - whilst it is true that legally this is the case its a shame they had to stand by the letter of the law - It's very much an unwritten rule that tyres over 10 years old should be replaced immediately - even more so on a rear wheel drive sports car ! A quick google will tell you that any reputable garage would not sell a car with 13 year old tyres on it. Subsequently, less than a week after paying £9k for a car i had to spend another £400 replacing the tyres, it simply wasn't worth risking a blow out. After replacing the tyres the car feels much better, far less road noise and a more forgiving ride - rubber deteriorates and hardens after a while resulting in a harder tyre with less grip and a greatly increased chance of failure. I gave AVS every opportunity to change their mind so its a shame AVS have let themselves and me down by putting profit above customer service and more importantly safety - imagine if one of those 13 year old tyres had blown on the motorway at 70 mph whilst i drove home ?
