Paul of Midwest Performance in Dudley is a disgrace to car dealers sadly. Paul is not a car dealer. More a trader that sells a small handful cars from his driveway! My self and my partner went to see a Nissan GTR that’s he had in stock for some 3 years plus. Never the less, we went to look at it. It hadn’t been cleaned and there was moss/mold on parts of the car. I explained I was going to pay a £6000 deposit that I had saved up since I was 14 years old, and I would like to get finance to fund the balance of the purchase £60,000 on finance. Paul suggested I pay half the deposit now!! (£3000) which seemed like a huge deposit to take without me sorting the finance out yet. He made me sign a receipt for the deposit paid via bank transfer (no card machine!!) When I spoke to his "mayte" at a dealership he advised that i would not be able to obtain finance at any lender with my small £24,000 salary on £70k car. Fair enough I informed paul within 24 hours of seeing the car and asked for my deposit back which was paid subject to me getting finance and on his advice to pay it. Paul refused and said I has signed that little yellow paper that states the deposit is nonrefundable at all. I explained he wasn’t out of pocket and that it was an exceptionally large deposit he asked for. Never the less he just flat out refused. My friend called him and said he could keep £500 and could he please refund the remaining £2500 as it was not right or fair on in keeping with Consumer laws to keep it all if he hadn’t incurred £3000 of costs. Paul said NO and just doesn’t seem to have a care in the world about his crooked and criminal way of operation on young and vulnerable customers. He was asked what if it was your parents or children that had been taken advantage of in the same way. He didn’t care and just repeated the deposit is not refundable. He was told, I would leave a review of my experience and again he just said go ahead. Paul seems to not understand or care about Consumer Law, Customers, Doing the right thing or understanding vulnerable people’s needs. I would not recommend anyone view or buy a car from him, as once he has taken money from you, he simply doesn’t care about anything, other than keeping that unjustly obtained money in his pocket. Paul, I hope Karma comes to you as it always does.
