This cowboy sold me a Jeep Grand Cherokee. 18miles after delivery, it died. Head gasket went instantly. After 2 independent inspections, from reputable local garages to myself. It is practically a write off. With LOTS of defects. In which they have, to the trained eye, tried to cover up, in which, they've made it even worse. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE USE THIS GARAGE OR THE OTHERS UNDER OWNERSHIP OF EVAN COURTNEY. HE HAS PREVIOUSLY BEEN TAKEN TO COURT AND LOST DUE TO SIMILAR SALES/ISSUES. HE IS A COWBOY!

he constantly rips people off - selling vehicles that he claims are under mechanical warranty but they never pay up because 'the admin guy who does that kind of thing' is out again... he's been charged before for selling dud vehicles. I bought my car from him 3 months ago - and it went into gimp mode the day after it was delivered. he's a lying thief
They are now New Road Motors, My Review is loooong sorry, but please read. To start with please please don’t purchase a car from these people. The auto trader reviews are clearly faked. Read the google reviews. This was the mistake we made. If we had read the google reviews and news articles we wouldn’t have dealt with these people. Its a bit of a long one but… Mid January saw a Vauxhall insignia on Auto Trader, this dealer had good reviews. Called them from number on auto trader. Went to the dealership. Should’ve trusted our instincts cos inside this place looked shady. The staff kitchen on full show was filthy, rubbish all over the floor. Toilet was disgusting. And the guys office is literally just a desk with paperwork all over the floor. But we still had the good auto trader reviews in our mind so thought perhaps its a place that doesn’t put any effort into its appearance because all the effort goes into the vehicles, give it the benefit of the doubt. Just FYI it really really isn’t, it is exactly how it looks- shady, unprofessional, corrupt. A few visits to look at it, the car seemed ok. Purchased it, they did a brand new MOT & 3months warranty. Didn’t use it again until a couple of days later when we noticed it would shake when it hit 67mph plus. And if it hadn’t been driven for a while and the engine was cold, an ‘oil pressure low- stop engine’ warning came up. Also the cruise control was tempermental, sometimes it would stay on and other times would just randomly turn off- we discovered you had to put your foot under the clutch pedal and slightly lift it and it would turn back on. We googled the phone number of the dealer, the Google Reviews are terrible, lots saying issues with vehicles, promised refunds never happening, refusing to do work. Then lots of reviews saying the guy running it, Evan Courtney has been convicted in the past for selling dangerous vehicles, under another business name. There is a wales online article about it. They have been on X-ray. When you look on Companies House, there have been multiple car dealership businesses closed down and reopened under new names. This obviously worried us, we contacted Trading Standards first to find out where we stood before contacting dealer. They said that we had 30 days with any car purchase if there is a fault and the warning light and shaking classified as faults. Advised us that there was already a file on them, but to give them the opportunity to fix the work under the warranty and keep them informed. Could have turned a new leaf etc etc Contacted dealer, not entirely sure of the name of who we spoke to but it was the same guy that sold us the car, short old guy wore a flat cap. They said they would fix the problems, took the car in a Thursday afternoon, picked it up on the Monday. They told us apparently a wheel was unbalanced, which had stopped. But the ‘oil pressure stop engine’ warning still came up. We didn’t know if this was sorted until it we had got it home and we started it the next day, as the engine was cold. The warning still comes up now. When we bought the vehicle we knew it hadn’t had a cam belt change so the dealer took money off for that. We booked the car in at Merthyr Road Garage (have great reviews on google FYI) for a cam belt change and thought we’ll get a full service done as well. The garage contacted us the same day to say that during the service they found that the back brake pads were very thin on material and the discs had been worn. And the front brake discs and pads approx 4000miles left, so should have an advisory. She said she found it odd that these hadn’t been spotted during the MOT. The car was dangerous so we got the brakes sorted. We were livid, the dealership had sold us a vehicle not only with these 2 initial faults but with dodgy brakes that would have failed an MOT. So they illegally sold us a dangerous vehicle. The MOT certificate we were given by them had absolutely no advisories, which is unusual for a 10 year old car, but again we trusted it. We just decided, the car is up to scratch now, full service done, cambelt done, the brakes & discs replaced, we will swallow it and never dealt with these people again. And we just needed a working car at this point. We asked to keep the removed brakes and discs if we ever needed as evidence. (See attached pics). Contacted trading standards to keep them in the loop, they told us to inform the DVSA about the dangerous brakes. Called DVSA, they’d said unfortunately because the brakes had been removed from the vehicle they couldn’t link it to the vehicle so couldn’t deal with us as an individual case but assured that the dealer was already on their radar for investigation. The car drove fine for a week or so. Saturday morning went to drive it and the car won’t go into gear with the engine running. My husband and I both tried it, looked under bonnet, come to the conclusion that the clutch isn’t engaging. That was the final straw, we weren’t going to now going to pay for a new clutch, we wanted our money back. Contacted the dealer on the Monday the same guy said something to effect of ‘well pending investigation we will have to see…bring it up and we’ll go from there.’ We said ha, well the problem is the car won’t drive cos it won’t go into gear, so you will have to pick it up. He said ‘let me come up with a plan and ill get back to you shortly’ Guess what… 2months later he never got back to us. Called trading standards to see what our next step is. They informed us that if we don’t hear anything to send them an official letter, which they sent us a template for, stating our reasons for a refund and they had 14 days to respond. We did that by recorded delivery so we know they received it, nothing. Trading standards send another stating the same, but they now have 7 days to respond, again nothing. So at this point trading standards told us to send a letter saying we will now be going down the legal route aka small claims court. Told us to get a legal advice checking how to make our case solid etc. We really really didn’t want to do this because it’s stressful, you just hope people will turn out decent in the end, but let me assure you these people are not. So a week goes by cos work, life, and to top it all we are in the middle of moving etc…. By this time the car has just been sat outside our house for 6 weeks. Every now and again throughout this we would go a start the car, try the gears hoping a miracle had happened but it hadn’t. We were ringing around for legal advice, told we had a solid case. This is where things change. About a week ago middle of the night we hear an alarm going off, think its ours cos the battery has drained or something, my hub goes to check it its a house alarm. While he’s there just gives it another try, but first just put his foot under the clutch pedal, slightly lifts it and car goes into gear! So seems our gear problem was something to do with a dodgy clutch pedal mechanism, which he was able to sort out a few days later when we had time. This was a relief because it meant we hadn’t spent out anymore on this car, didn’t have to pay for court fees (which actually weren’t as high as we expected but still), we had a working (for now) vehicle and the insane stress we had felt was lifted. Let me emphasise we were fully prepared to go to small claims court despite not wanting to because of the stress we had already felt. This doesn’t change the fact that the the dealer sold us a dangerous vehicle with unbalanced wheels, stop engine warnings, illegal brakes & discs and a dodgy clutch pedal, refused to communicate with us or refund us even though legally required. If you have experienced something like this with these people, can financially & mentally then do it and we will be a supporting claim if necessary.

Literally going through the exact same. Broken car, can't afford to fix it and the garage won't speak with me :(
Shane Lewis in response to Never ever use these people.
Had very similar experience, took them all the way to small claims court in 2018 and got my money back. Very stressful. Whole process took over 12 months from date I bought the car. If you are reading this before buying your car, I cannot recommend enough for you to stay away from this business. They’re business model is based on ripping off customers in the hope they find the process of formally claiming a refund too stressful. Sadly the system allows them to keep trading.

Sarah We are having a terrible time with these people. They have £4000 of our money and I’m at my wit’s end with it. Emma

I really wish I had read your review before I spent £8000 on my Nissan Pathfinder from "the old man in a flat cap" I had trouble from day 2 and after three weeks the gearbox packed up. That was two weeks ago when the AA delivered it to them, they still havn`t touched it. My only way now is court action. Hope your car is working well. Will.

Marc Gliddon in response to Defective Car - Advice Needed
Did you ever take legal action against this company. I am in a position where I need to. Would like to know your experience. Thanks Marc
Be Warned This is the worst experience I've ever had, purchased a car and was told everything would be checked over serviced and new mot. I mentioned about previous advisory's and they told us they would do them and have the fiat doblo ready for collection a few days later. Problems started more or less straight away. Got up the next morning to find the car had left a very large puddle of oil under the car with oil dripping onto the exhaust and splashed around back of wheels and breaks. They did collect the car and were supposed to repair it. They collect the car and drop it back late on the same day supposed to be repaired. We move the car two yards and noticed the oil leak was now worse than before and further looking at the car there was also damage caused by there so call spanner monkey. Yet again they took the car away and brought it back day later. This time the drivers door + handle was covered in oil marks including the bonnet and could feel oil over the steering wheel. By this time we had it. So we call in an independent vehicle inspector who give us a long report of problems with the car some very serious. The vehicle inspector call into question the validity of mot considerating we had driven the car less than 60 mile over the couple of days and the amount of problems the fiat doblo had. Would not recommend this garage or the mot person they use. Be warned

Please make sure you read all of the reviews on here, google and on facebook. The reviews on autotrader are clearly fake and created by the garage. A friend of mine bought a car from them and then returned it because it was dangerous and clearly not road worthy. It’s very suspicious that the car had a valid MOT. New Road Motors are refusing to make a refund. They agreed that the car has serious mechanical problems. The salesman, Dennis, promised for 2 weeks that a cheque was in the post and it hasn’t arrived. He has now said that “if you want your money back, i’ll see you in court”. The owner, Evan Courtney, has been convicted for selling dangerous vehicles. There is an article about him on Walesonline. Trading Standards and the Fraud arm of the police have had numerous complaints. I suspect that Evan Courtney, will be putting New Road Motors into liquidation soon and then continue trading with a new company name or with his other Company, All Sorts Motor Company.
Anonymous in response to Stay away - bunch of crooks
As you expected, he has changed the name of the company and is now trading as the 4x4 Centre. Nothing else has changed.
The owner, Courtney Evans, has previously been in crown court for selling vehicles that are not road worthy. How he has another business on the go is beyond me. Just Google his name.
Brian Davies in response to Please don’t buy from here.
