James from Ashridge Vehicles Ltd in response to Avoid like the plague
Dear Mark, sorry to hear you had some after sales issues that you felt didn't get resolved to your satisfaction. All our cars are thourghly prperared under the RAC's used car program and are sold with a 5 star RAC Warranty included. Im not quite sure that us being uncontactable is quite true though, but i'm sorry if we or the RAC couldn't resolve your issue. Regards, James
Luigi was an absolute joy to deal with, he was great, no pushy sales trying to upsell things I don't need. I highly recommend their services and will continue to purchase from them.
The service provided by Ashridge Vehicles was terrific. They understand that customers are spending a large sum of money and are super helpful and not pushy. I managed to part exchange my car in and took our protection, all within my budget. I am glad I have found a dealer that is willing to look after me if I incur any issues. Regards Baz
Just picked up my car and I love it! I first found it on Autotrader a week ago and arranged a visit at the weekend to test drive and look over the car. Picked it up today with everything done as agreed. Thanks Sammy for all your help!

Our experience with Ashridge Vehicles after-sale service. We bought a 4 year old BMW i3, along with £400 "Williams Ceramic Coat" paint protection. After a few months, following a car wash, we found a scratch mark and peeling paint on our car. With no idea where it had come from, we assumed someone had scraped it and spent £250 to get it repaired. The next time we had a car wash, several more areas showed peeling paint and scrapes. These had not been there previously. It seemed clear that the car had a (cheap?) coat of paint over the top of some damage, and that the paint was quickly wearing away - unclear whether the dealership or the previous owner were responsible. I tried to claim on the paint protection which clearly hadn't helped, only to be told that despite costing £400 and being called "paint protection" on the invoice, it didn't cover this issue. Frustrated, I phoned Ashridge Vehicles. I was told by the person I spoke to that I should "email complaints" as they don't deal with this kind of issue over the phone. He also said (I quote verbatim) that this "may be a problem, but it's not our problem". I emailed complaints in some annoyance, explaining the issue and concluding that we felt scammed. I got a very snippy reply from someone called James, saying that they had taken offence at the use of the word "scammed" and that my tone was not constructive. (The email was purely factual other than the sentence "we feel completely scammed" at the end.) Not very encouraging. I messaged back explaining in more detail why I felt this way, and including pictures as requested. I was emailed back saying that they couldn't believe their colleague would say this, and that they would listen to the phone call (they never bothered of course). He then went on to say that in his and his colleague's professional opinion, this was damage sustained during the months that we had been driving the car. In other words, his professional opinion was that I was lying about the damage appearing after a car wash. He then offered to make an appointment to look at it further. Since this would involve taking time off to make a 3hr+ round trip, to visit someone who had already made it quite clear that they had no intention of doing anything constructive or taking the issue seriously, I wasn't happy with this. I emailed again asking how he could say that peeling paint was accident damage, and complaining about other aspects of his response, but was completely ignored. I have tried on multiple occasions to speak to James on the phone but been told "it doesn't work that way" and that email (which he is now completely ignoring) is the only way my complaint will be addressed. In short : they have been rude and unco-operative. Fine to deal with if you want to buy a car, but good luck if you have any problems with it.

James from Ashridge Vehicles Ltd in response to Buyer Beware
Dear Graham, I'm pleased that you could see from our initial pictures when you purchased the car and then the pictures of its present condition that your paintwork concerns were actually fresh damaged caused whilst in your ownership and not paint flaking off from any poor previous repair.I hope this resolves the matter. Kind regards, James
The car I bought from Ashridge Vehicles has left me upset, disappointed and considerably out of pocket. After collecting the car I found that both sides had been repaired badly. The list of problems includes runs and debris in the paintwork on both sills, poor application of stone chip and overspray where it shouldn’t be. There was a foil (clear plastic stuck to the body to protect areas prone to stone chips) missing from one side and various pieces of trim falling off [See Pictures]. Trim was also damaged due to careless removal and broken clips, which should have been replaced, were not replaced. The list goes on and on…. As the weather got warmer (car purchased January) another problem appeared…. One of the lower door moldings becomes detached from the body leaving a gap of at least 5mm when it gets hot in direct sunlight. When it cools it goes back to what looks like its normal position. When I viewed the car the light wasn’t great and there was another customer who told me that if I didn’t buy it he would so I had to make a quick decision under pressure. When I collected the car I was asked to walk around it and sign to say I was happy with it, which I did. I was super excited, maybe blinkered, and maybe naively expected a car with only 9700 miles on the clock would be in good condition, dare I say it, even close to perfect. In Ashridge Vehicles own words “Vehicles are cleaned and maintained to the highest standards by our highly experienced valeting team” so I cannot help but wonder if the ‘highly experienced valeting team’ might have noticed the repairs, or certainly the missing foil, and forgotten to mention it to me? I don’t think it unreasonable to ask for a contribution towards the cost of repairing the car, again. Some of the problems are minor and I can sort them out myself, but not the paint work, or the parts that are falling off. The paint is going to be in the region of £800. All four door moldings need to be removed and re-attached properly with one needing to be replaced at approx. £300. When I first discussed all the problems with manager Luigi (on the phone) his exact words were “I don’t have an open chequebook” and “do you know someone in the trade who can do the work” which I took as an encouraging response. I asked for a contribution of £1200 and that was when Luigi’s positive response changed to a negative one and he pointed out that most second hand cars they sell have had some kind of bodywork repair. I wonder how many people actually know if their car has been repaired? In many cases the staff at the hand car wash probably know more about the condition of the cars than their owners. Luigi also reminded me that they did supply me with the missing foil (but didn’t fit it), they did re-fit the molding on the rear quarter panel that was hanging off and they also tried to refit the interior door handle properly, and in doing so damaged it, and even made a point of telling me that they had done all that Free Of Charge! Having damaged the inner door handle they did agree to supply a new one (£17.95 on eBay) with clips and the corresponding piece that it attaches to on the door panel. After 23 months of waiting the handle arrived, but no corresponding bit or clips and my last msg. regarding that has not been answered. Ashridge vehicles reply to all reviews left here and I have no doubt they will try and turn this around on me. They might point out that I inspected the car so it’s my fault, and they would be right, and I beat myself up every day that I didn’t notice anything. They might ask why it’s taken so long for me to leave my review and that would be partly due to waiting 23 months for the replacement door handle and also not particularly enjoying writing negative reviews. It’s the sort of thing I find very easy to put off. I will be spending well over £1200 to put the car right and even then it will never be perfect, it will still be a repaired car and if I ever have a need for VW’s Body protection warranty they will take one look at the repairs and send me on my way. Sales Manager from Ashridge Vehicles Ltd in response to Very Unhappy Customer
Dear Julian, Having taken some time to review your purchase of the vehicle back in January 2020, some 2 years of ownership before your posting, I must point out that you spent considerable time inspecting the car (as any prospective buyer would) and also as you pointed out in your review, that you completed paperwork to say that you were happy with the condition of the car and all other aspects of the transaction. Indeed, another customer who also viewed the car whilst you were in the process of buying it was also happy to go ahead with the purchase, so I'm confident the car wasn't any were near as bad as you claim. We also need to point out your extensive career experience within the motor trade and as such your confirmation of satisfaction brings to the table perhaps even more validity than someone without a working experience of motor vehicles. That said it is always our aim to help resolve any concerns a customer may have. The vehicle that you purchased was approaching 4 years old when you took delivery and again given your years of experience, I am sure that you would agree that it is completely conceivable in fact more likely than not that most vehicles of this age would have at some stage in their life had minor cosmetic repairs carried out to them. An approved body shop would charge around £800 per single panel just to re-paint. we would not consider being able to find £800 of imperfections across this whole car as anything more than commensurate with its age. As a gesture of goodwill, we did supply you with some parts from the manufacturer (not eBay), that did suffer a major delay given the nationwide lockdown everybody experienced and it is a well known fact that parts supply are still being affected to this day. We are sorry that our service did not meet with your expectations as we did not carry out any of the repairs you are complaining of and given your experience and highly critical eye it is rather unfair that our numerous conversations regarding this have led you to leave this poor review solely because we were not prepared to make your car like new which in truth isn't that bad at all. It is also disappointing to note your personal harassment of our manager via their personal social media accounts. Ashridge Vehicles
Julian Hunt in response to Very Unhappy Customer
It comes as no surprise that Ashridge try and turn it all around on me. The truth is that the repairs to the car were absolutely terrible, and Ashridge Vehicles response to my review is not accurate. Don't take my word for it though, the pictures are here so you can make your own mind up. https://www.julianhunt.net/Ashridge-Vehicles-VW-Beetle-9700-Miles/n-ZnDSvq If that link gets removed, or is not allowed, as I suspect, the pictures will be posted on line when I am able to find the time to do it. As for "personal harassment of our manager via their personal social media accounts", what an absolutely ridiculous claim! I can honestly say, hand on heart, that I have not had any contact with any member of Ashridge Vehicles staff on social media and why would I? All I'm interested in is telling the world that the car I bought from Ashridge vehicles was a bad car, and Ashridge were not interested in putting it right, or contributing to putting it right. Perhaps the personal social media harassment was made by another of Ashridge Vehicles unhappy customers, of which there seem to be plenty.
Very Helpful Staff, great service and great advise they even had my car that I was part exchanging which had technical fault on it looked at by one of their experts and they advised me on whats best for me. The car is great, its definitely the service what made it for us.
