I called Grant late on a Saturday afternoon to view a car I was interested in, aware that he may have to stay open late, or possibly have to see me on a Sunday, when he would normally be closed. He offered to stay late on the Saturday or see me on the Sunday, whichever was best for me. I opted for the Saturday, and Grant was very welcoming when we arrived after a 60 mile journey. The standard of the cars and workshop clearly show that this is someone who cares about his business and his customers. We took the car (an M Class Mercedes) out for a test drive, and Grant was very accommodating. I've owned several Mercedes over the past 15 years and Grant clearly knew his stuff and was able to answer quite technical questions about the car. He also asked the right questions about the car I was trading in, and offered a reasonable p/x on a car with over 200,000 miles on it, which saved me the hassle of organising lifts backwards/forwards to pick up the new car. He dealt with all the paperwork and tax whilst we transferred the contents from our old car to our new one, so all I needed to do was sort out the insurance (and pay for the car!), and we were off. Seeing the one or two negative reviews on here, I absolutely sympathise, but I do think some people do not appreciate that buying any used car is always a bit of a gamble - some things can be impossible to predict, and it seems like Grant has been more than generous in how he has dealt with those who have had complaint. Fingers crossed, my car will not give me any trouble (or any more than one would expect at 13 years old and 150,000 miles), but I could hardly blame the dealer/previous owner.

Bought the Volkswagen Passat 2.0 TDI Sport DSG 5dr that is up for sale now. Unfortunately the gear box caused the car to shudder and we were advised by experts to take the car back as to replace gear box is £4K. Car was sold to us when the engine was warm - car does not shudder when warm We live in Scotland so travelled to get the car by train, picked up by salesman in the Passat so car had been run Got home to Scotland then noticed the problem Salesman refused to believe there was an issue Salesman advised that he would offer £2500 (we paid £3000) and that he would fight us all the way regarding our Consumer rights Unfortunately we needed the money back in order to purchase a working car therefore were forced to accept this awful offer. Beware when dealing with Avalon Autos.

Grant marsden from Avalon Autos in response to Do not buy from this Company
This review is not the true case. Firstly claire has never spoken with me before, during or after the sale of this car. How can she have this opinion as she has had no dealings with this sale at all. Claires partner to whom we dealt with asked myself to pick him up from chesterfield train station in the passat as he had travelled from glasgow. Gordon drove the car back to the dealership and actually praised the car and the good service we did for him. Gordon then from home some 250 miles and even text me to say how impressed he was with the car. Gordon contacted us the following monday saying when setting off there was a slight shudder. I explained to gordon that this is a characteristic of the dsg gearbox as they are not a traditional auromatic gearbox with a smooth torque convertor. The dsg gearbox actually has a wet clutch fitted so the sensation they were experiencing was just the mechanically clutch taking up drive. All phase 1 dsg gearboxs do this. We understood gordons concerns so asked him to bring the car back to us to inspect. Myself and gordon agreed before he made the 250 miles journey back to chesterfield (which clearly shows there is no fault wirh the gearbox) that after checking out his complaint if we agreed it was a FAULT we would fully re embursed the purchase price (£2955). however if it was just how the dsg gearbox takes up drive we would not just send him away back home but put him another car of his choose or buy the car back off of him for £2500 if he really did not want the car. When gordon arrived at avalon autos he took me for a drive in the car and openly admitted its hardly noticable. Im actually are car technician by trade with 20 years experience mainly at mercedes benz main dealer. I explained to gordon who is a electronics engineer how the dsg gearbox worked. I even took the time to take gordon for a drive in another car with automatic transmission but with the more traditional torque convertor set up. I explained that when you release the brake pedal on this system a signal is sent to the torque convertor solenoid valve in the valvebody which releases hydrailic fluid to allow the gearbox to take up drive. This system is alot smoother than the dsg gearbox which uses a wet mechanical clutch. Gordon told me they have not took the car anywhere for this complaint to be looked at so clearly a worst case SELF diagnosis has taken place with no official evidence to back it up. Gordon clearly agreed to the deal with us buying the car back at £2500 as we would have the financial loss of re advertising the car and also de valueung the car by putting another owner on the logbook as it was a one owner car. Gordon was clearly happy to do this as he agreed and signed the purchase invoice. Gordon and myself parted on good terms. I even took him back to chesterfield train station. It would appear that (claire) has sour grapes about this situation as gordon told me she DID NOT want the car or she doesnt know the whole convertation between avalon autos and gordon who is the customer we dealt with. I explained it nothing personal, its business. There would be no second hand car to buy or at extremely high prices if a customers were this the negative lady whi wrote this unjust and harmful review. Please read and jugde both sides of the story to make up your own mind. Look at ALL the positive reviews that avalon autos recieve. Kindest regards, Grant marsden. Director of avalon autos ltd.

Bought a Peugeot 3008. Dealer was friendly and helpful from the start, honestly spoke about the car and did not pressure us into making a decision. He gave us plenty of time to consider our purchase. Process was quick and easy. Would definitely recommend
Brought a ford focus from Avalon autos with part exchange, dealer was friendly, honest and helpful from start to finish. Definitely recommend!
Purchased a Mini Cooper D and was such a stress free process from start to finish. Used car dealers have a bad rep but this guy turns all that around. A genuine & honest family man that wants to sell top quality cars. Fantastic car, recommend him 100%.

Saw ad on Autotrader and MX5 was as described and in great condition.Paid deposit and arranged to collect Travelled up by train and Grant came to collect me from the station. All paperwork was ready to process, found Grant very easy to talk to,and he was very knowledgable on mechanicals of cars I would have no problem in recommending Avalon Autos for your next car purchase. I will definitely be recommending them to my friends.
No different to any other. Problem and this clown behaves the same as all the rest. So if you decide to buy from this parasite make sure you get a thorough check up of the car cause any problems and your on your own. £6000 for a car I can't use. Getting cranky.
Grant Marsden from Avalon Autos in response to Steer clear
This review is unjustified. We have said to mr clark all along to bring his audi back and we will repair his car free of charge. (Please see text message screen shots atttached). Free of charge only includes parts and labour. Unfortunatly mr clark returned the car with very little fuel in it. (Please See photo attached). For the diagnostic equipment to carry out a forced regeneration on the diesel particulate filter the car needs a minimum of 1/4 tank of fuel which will ONLY then allow the diesel particulate filter to regenerate.(please see photo attached of computer screen with required criteria that needs fullfilling to allow dpf to regenerate). All this car requires to rectify the customers complaint is a glow plug (£11) and the diesel particulate filter regenating which is caused by short journeys. (diesel particulate filters only regenerate at normal operating tempretures and it takes around 20 minutes to regenerate). Mr clark has owned this car for 3 months and ONLY covered less than 1000 miles. He is clearly not fullfilling the required criteria to make the diesel particulate filter regenerate as it is designed to do. Please also see photo of the fault codes. We have always done our best to rectify the issue with mr clarks car but our warranty does not cover putting fuel in cars. All we asked is if we put £30 worth of diesel in his own vehicle how does he intent to refund us with the money. The cars repair will be free of charge like we have said all along. Please se all photos of sceen shots of our text communication regarding mr clarks car plus 3 other photos. 1. fuel guage. 2. Diagnostic equipment showing car needs at least 1/4 tank of diesel to regenerate the dpf. 3. Fault codes causing customer complaints. Please use our rebuttal to get the full story and hopefully get this unjustified review removed so it does not have a unwarranted negative affect on our future sales with autotrader. Kindest regards, Grant marsden, Director of avalon autos.

From the service I received today and having spend time talking with Grant I find this review harsh to say the least. Great honest guy who wanted to make sure I was 100% happy and even went out of his way to do so. Purchased an excellent mini copper. Faultless car and service.
After a nightmare weekend of trawling used car garages, Avalon autos was a refreshing change. Grants description of the Car was spot on, I made an hour and a half journey hoping it would not be a disappointment, however I had a good feeling from talking to him on the phone and as he was making a special trip on a Sunday when he doesn't normally open I thought he wouldn't do this if he didn't have confidence in the car. And true to his word it was immaculate exactly as he had described. A truly refreshing experience and a really nice guy. All the other cars I saw were also to a high standard, I'd have no problem recommending Avalon autos.
