How I now wish I had done some research on CJS in Swinton Manchester before parting with my hard earned cash, If I knew then what I know now I wouldnt have touched them with a bargepole. But please don"t just take my word for it, the highly respected and impartial "which website" has its very own piece on CJS involving a court case where they sold a dangerous car with many faults to a lady and then to add insult to injury not only did they refuse to fix her car or give her her money back as per their legal obligations under the consumer rights act , they also refused to give her the car back full stop and then tried to charge her storage fees, Thankfully a judge saw right through cjs and awarded the customer over £5000. You know things are bad when "which" highlight individual companies /court cases on their website. Copy and paste this link and it will take you to the "which website" article https://conversation.which.co.uk/motoring/brief-cases-dangerous-car/ If that link doesnt work please just google "cjs dangerous car " I note another reviewer on here has recently made claims of cjs refusing to give him his car back too after it went faulty, how are cjs allowed to get away with this is beyond belief, ? This is a long review re my own personal experience, but please read it all as it might just save you the hassle/expense I have had to endure if you pre know how this company operate and the tactics they use when things go wrong. If my review helps just 1 person from getting stung, it will be well worth the time its taken me to write it. You might be tempted by the cheap prices and promise of the 1 month warranty they claim you get on their vehicles , Forget it as they did not honour the warranty as I found out to my cost. their vehicles are alot cheaper than other places, but is it worth the risk ? maybe they are cheaper for a reason ? Just have a re read through the reviews here when things have gone wrong, you will see the same pattern of CJS refusing to put things right, If like myself you have worked hard for your money, I would avoid them at all costs. Pay a bit more and go to a reputable company. Here is my own experience, I recently bought a vehicle for just over £3000 from CJS ,Supposedly with a 1 month engine and gearbox warranty , you will note on their website that almost every vehicle has a 1 month warranty in its description. However soon after buying the vehicle and whilst still under the 1 month warrant period it developed a major fault making it unsafe to drive. It was only then that I found out just how bad and shocking their lack of respect for customers/consumer law is. Their tactics when things go wrong are truly appalling, the owner was all smiles and friendly when I was handing my cash over, I soon saw the other side when I wanted the vehicle putting right/fixing. Cjs have a clause written into their contracts (i wonder why ?) that states its the customers responsibility to return the vehicle at their own expense , so being in the AA, i got them to return my vehicle to CJS , On returning the vehicle he promised me not to worry and it would be fixed at no cost to myself. However some 3 days later , I rang to see why I hadnt received an update as promised, He bizzarly came up with a story that I would have to pay for the part to repair the vehicle myself as I must have driven down a pot hole or kerb and the drive shaft was snapped,/ripped clean off ?(his words ) Now im not a mechanic but I know if the drive shaft was snapped clean off as he had claimed the vehicle wouldnt drive, and funnily enough I had 2 separate AA men who had both driven it more than 100 yards each. and indeed back at cjs car park when I dropped the car back off the vehicle was driven after the AA man had unloaded it from his recovery truck, It was driven around the car park and into a parking bay, funny that seeing as the drive shaft was snapped/ripped clean out as he had claimed.? I told him I wasnt happy and he was trying to rip me off/deceive me , to which he said we were just going round in circles, and the part to fix it would be a few hundred pounds and in his words they would kindly do the labour for free. It was then that I did some research and found out that fulfilling their legal obligations isnt cjs"s strong point, and it was at this point that I became aware of the shocking disrespect and total disregard for the law they had shown to the customer in the court case covered on the which website. So bearing in mind the "which" report and the fact they refused to give her the car back in that case .I turned up unannounced at CJS and challenged the owner on their nonsense re a snapped drive shaft, he replied by saying " oh hes not a mechanic and he doesnt know about cars" , I then tried to reason with him that it was their responsibility to fix whatever the problem was as it was less than the statutory 30 days when I reported the problem, but he point blank refused and said I would have to pay for the part even though the consumer regulations say its the dealers responsibility, also not forgetting this vehicle was supposed to have a 1 month warranty on it as do most of the vehicles on their website. So I handed in my pre prepared right to reject letter, but like others on here "see you in court" was his response, followed by him telling me it will take months, and you will have to pay for a solicitor etc etc (I note others on here have also had the same "see you in court response Fortunately unlike some others on here, I did get my vehicle back at this point, and it has now been repaired by a qualified mechanic , although it wasnt the drive shaft fault cjs said it was (no surprise there ) , It was a diff/gearbox problem but I cant say im shocked anyway because I wouldnt trust anything CJS have too say , Bizzare isnt it and very very telling that CJS said the vehicle had a 1 month engine and gearbox warranty, but when it did develop a major gearbox fault within that warranty period, they made up some nonsense claiming it was not a gearbox problem when it clearly was. Please avoid CJS, the "which " report alone should be enough to ,make anyone think twice

Please be aware of this company. They sell vehicles with warranty that are essentially non runners. They asked me to return my vehicle to them for repairs then refused to let me have it back. They still have my vehicle and the money, it was only corsa £3000 but seems as though they have done this numerous times before
I called CJS regarding 2 Audi A5s, red and beige. Told them I was coming from London so needed an accurate description. Red A5 was described as immaculate, FSH priced at £6995 08 year. Beige A5 was described as very good with a scratch on side n/s. £6495 09 year. Here is what I found on arrival: Red A5 multitude of severe stone chips and scratches to bonnet and n/s front wing, bonnet misaligned, rear parking sensor missing., alloys heavily marked. Beige A5 heavily stone chipped with rust coming through, very large chip to roof (10mmx10mm) paint missing and rusting, scratch to rear wing (as stated) however it also had a large gouge lower down, alloys kerbed badly. Bonnet again misaligned. Both cars are still at swinton (6 weeks later). Red now priced at £6395, beige at £5595 and still no takers lol. These are the cheapest on autotrader by some way and still no one wants them. Just tell the truth swinton and stop wasting peoples time, this issue comes up a fair bit in reviews and unfortunately its true. Judging on pictures they post, I believe the longer they have cars, the more they get damaged which is not a good sign. No doubt they can and do sell good cars, but you are taking pot luck, avoid where possible.

Andy in response to Rude & deceptive
I was looking at a 3.0 TDI Audi at this garage until reading these reviews ,I think I will pay the extra and buy from main dealer or reputable dealer.
Carl Sullivan from CJS Car Sales Swinton (Closed Down) in response to Rude & deceptive
Response to Rude and Deceptive Remember this guy well. Came down with a 50 page dossier of A5 Adverts along with his flask and sandwiches. Was looking at our A5 which is priced at trade money and was expecting a brand new one. Unfortunately his budget purchase price won't stretch to a brand new one.
Carl was so friendly and knowledgeable he made buying my new bmw smooth and fast. High mileage but one owner with full bmw history and a grand cheaper than the other one I was thinking of buying. Had it a month now so fingers crossed it was the right car for me.
Friendly and knowledgeable customer service. They let you view the car on your own rather than being pushy sales vultures and make you feel comfortable. Great communication throughout. A huge variety of cars and in great condition. 100% recommend.
Never buy a car in this place. I bought a car a month ago and in the first week the car had several faults. Carl told me the car had a three-month warranty, but when I took the car to the garage, I was charged a more expensive bill that was priced higher than in any other garage. He told me that he would only cover the first 200 pounds and the rest he had to pay. It also gave me the option to give me back the car money, but it was a lie. The next day, the very rude owner and shouting at me, told me that he would not refund the money and that I did not have the three month guarantee.

Debi CJS in response to NEVER BUY A CAR IN THIS PLACE
I have photo evidence of the receipt I paid for this Spanish couples car.. It cost £390 to put right - which we paid, with no cost whatsoever to the customer Remove this review as it is utter lies.
Purchased a nice bmw 520d auto, all looked and sounded good. Was told there was a 1 month warranty as it was a great price so happy enough with that. after a good hour journey home and getting used to the car realized gear changes where sharp and there was a judder at certain speeds. also blue smoke at times, also key fob wont lock or unlock car so have to use the key. Well 2 days after I phoned the garage to explain the faults, nice man called Carl said that as it was a great deal there was no warranty, but he would sell me one for £200. I have nothing in writing to say there's no warranty or its a trade sale, so now i'm going to how I get on but i'm guessing small claims court and trading standards are the best people to deal with.

Found the car I wanted and at a great price, was told how much I needed to borrow including the warrantee charge, arranged finance then got told had to leave a deposit which also covered the warrantee, explained I'd put that on finance but still had to pay extra to take the car off sale??? Went to collect the car a couple of days later. The advert said the timing belt had been done, got in touch with the dealer that had completed every bit of work on it and guess What, it's never been done. Now I have to fork out £300 to get it done. Rant over, staff were great, car is fantastic and got top px price for mine. If your after a good used car definitely consider them, just watch the figures.

Bought a car from CJS Car Sales Swinton and had it a very short space of time, wouldn't fix it and accused me of breaking it. 'See you in court' was the reply. We will. And Watchdog. And everywhere else I can publicise this.
Great car and staff. Highly recommend CJS Car Sales.
