Having been looking to purchase a Land Rover Discovery I reserved one on the 11th August at your Swindon branch on sale for 26k (SE TECH) however upon reserving the car I was informed the car was still in the prep stage so wouldn't be able to view until the 21st August. At this stage I still had no concerns about using CarShop so the 21st comes around my partner and I drive 2 hours from London having taken the day off work for our 8am appointment only to be told the car wasn't ready yet and that it was still at the prep centre and not in Swindon as advertised. At no point did I receive a missed call, voicemail let alone an email to explain that the car wouldn't be ready for our visit and save us a 4 hour round trip, the fuel costs plus a wasted day off annual leave for both my partner and I. Whilst at Swindon trying to figure out why nobody contacted me the blame was just being passed around by staff without a solution. I was informed whilst there that the car was stuck in the prep centre in mechanics, but the lady didn't have a timeframe but assured me she would find out Friday (21st) and be in touch. It's now Wednesday PM and I've not heard anything which leads me to believe you don't value you me as a customer at this stage so makes me wonder what it would be like with aftersales.
Today we went to view a car at the Swindon branch, to say we were shocked is a bit of an understatement! When we arrived we were told the car had a flat battery, after enquiring as to why, we were told because it had been sat around due to Covid and it was a common problem with the other cars, due to them not being turned over once a week because a car has to be turned over once a week to stop the battery going flat... well that had our hackles up straight away! What happens when you go on holiday? Do you come back to a flat battery? NO!!! That’s the biggest load of 🐄 💩 I have ever heard! A battery problem is a car not being started for quite a few months, knackered battery or dodgy alternator etc NOT because it hasnt been started in a week! Next.... the car had umpteen issues! LCD screen not working! Front grill broken not on website pictures as far as we can zoom in and see, so We guessed the damage had been done after those were taken! trim faded! Lots of stone chips! Bodywork full of scratches! Gauge in back seat panelling! 2 months MOT! Told the car was probably reduced due to the broken grill, yet already overpriced at 10,499 reduced to 9k, compared to the market! Car hadn’t been cleaned properly, found several personal items in it! We were told we could take it for a test drive but it would take about 45 mins to set up ref route, paperwork and insurance etc but most people dont bother because it’s got 3 months warranty (um who is going to spend that much on a car and not take it for a test drive first!!! It took her 10 mins to sort out paperwork!!! Why are they trying to discourage you from taking a car out? When discussing potential payment (before we had even had the chance to see the car) we said if we bought it then we would pay some via Credit card due to the card payment protection (protection against cowboys!) we were told... Better protection with finance than credit card?!?!?? We were also told that paying by credit card ruins your credit score (to that effect) commission on finance by any chance car shop???? I have the money, I don’t want or need finance. Then comes the kick in the teeth! We did a brief part exchange quote on the car shop website! Around £1650.00 I guessed they would knock a few hundred quid off because it’s a 2010 car, had a couple of minor dings (far better condition than the car I was seeing) and a small upholstery issue (nothing that couldn’t be fixed) and they took off £900!!!! We already had a part exchange quote of £1400 from another dealer who had gone over my car! But sadly I didn’t like the car colour of that one! So I knew what others would be prepared to pay! So they lost a sale!!! I would have accepted the bodywork issues (other issues could have been rectified) so I went to another dealer that had the exact same model, less mileage and in far better condition and cheaper (market value)!!! So we bought that, the customer service was far more superior, couldn’t have been more helpful, not full of 🐄 💩, oh and also offered me £1400.00 part exchange! Your loss Car Shop!!!
I had recently sold my car so had the cash to buy a car outright and we asked to have a look at it. This old man was so rude to us we had to walk away!
This is long as had nothing but problems!!! I purchased me vehicle in March 2019, this is the first car I've ever brought myself after saving for months and months, after purchasing my Hyundai Santa Fe Premium Auto for 15k I was then talked into buying the full warranty as was told I am covered on everything including electrical, just nothing that is wear and tear. The sales man told me it was the same as having a manufacturers warranty and for piece of mind took out the £800 additional warranty cost. My car started to stall when I put it into drive just after Christmas 2019, as I phoned my warranty company they told me to take it into any VAT registered garage so I took it to my local hyundai manufacturer, after inspection they discovered that the gear box was completely corroded along with the transfer box clearly a mechanical fault, they drained the oil to find it full of bits and basically like slim. With this they told me everything needed replacing and gave me a quote for over 8k!! To say I was shocked is an understatement when I contacted the warranty company.... Wait for it guess what?!?!? Correct I was NOT covered due to it being a non sudden failure!! I have since paid for 2 separate reports that clearly show the transmission oil should have been changed to manufacturers specification at 60k miles. I purchased at 58k had the proper service have been done they would have picked up this fault and rectified the problem as it would of been found in time before causing all the damage. I have since had contact with carshop who agreed to pay a 50% contribution towards repairs at a garage of their choice!! This has taken 6 months so I have been without my car for 6 months!! As I'm sick of chasing it constantly I agreed to pay the other 50% they collected the car from my local hyundai taking it over 60 miles away from my home town, now what?!?!? YES that's right they have decided to add on additional costs implying their garage of choice did not know the full repairs that were required even though they saw 2 separate reports the quote from hyundai which stated the repairs required!! I honestly cannot believe this is still going on the stress this has caused me is ridiculous not to we have had to purchase a new car in January. I spent nearly 16k on a car that was MISSOLD to me and not upto manufacturers specification. They offered to pay for the 50% contribution as they know full well if I take this to court they would loose. Looks like that is where this will end.

so where do I start ? I purchased a car from the Swindon branch on the 23rd of January 2020, it was the most long winded and stressful experience I have ever had in my life it took one week of constant chasing as I was making phone calls and sending emails every single day up until receiving the car. The sales person I originally dealt with completed my application over the telephone within minutes of enquiring about the car, after this I was completely left in the dark about when the car would be ready for me to go and collect as the person would ignore all of my calls and would never be available, this would then leave me to make a complaint via their online chat application on the website which would then suprise surprise result in a phone call from the sales person who would then give me an update on the car it’s almost like they are scared in communicating. It was a disaster from the beginning as I had tried to arrange for the car to be delivered from Swindon to Manchester but it took around 2 day’s for someone to even acknowledge the request so instead of waiting Even longer I had to force an appointment at the Swindon branch (150 miles away from Manchester) as I was told this would allow me to collect the car rather than waiting an extra 7 days for delivery. I turned up at the Swindon branch around 11:30 a.m and it was as if they wasn’t even aware that I was arriving to collect a car as they were running around like headless chickens preparing paperwork, I didn’t manage to leave the store until around 5 pm that day and I was physically and mentally exhausted from the whole experience. It doesn’t end there, Upon driving the car home from Swindon I could tell that the car hadn’t been prepared to be collected as it was even clean and even the plastic sign with the price of the car was left on the floor on the passengers side and the parking sensors were not working but I just wanted to get home so I didn’t bother going back to the store before my journey home. After an hour or so of driving back on the motorway the car started to violently shake and vibrate which caused me to pull into a service station to check if I had a flat tyre but after checking all tyres they were all in good condition which left me puzzled as to what was causing the problem. The violent shaking would come and go at various speeds but it just kept getting more frequent and got to the point where felt scared and unsafe especially on a motorway, I booked an appointment with the car shop over the telephone so they could look at the car as I was a very unhappy customer with a faulty car, after waiting 10 days I found out on the day of the appointment the person had booked me into the Swindon branch when I specifically told them I live 2 miles away from the Manchester branch!!! After calling them they then told me I had to wait an additional 19 days to get booked into the Manchester branch. By this point the car was literally falling apart, the car would start to squeal/squeak very loudly and would make a whining noise when making turns, it was embarrassing it was as if I was driving around in a 40 year old rust bucket not what you expect from a car that you have had for a few weeks, the steering caused concern and made me feel unsafe so I had left the car parked outside my house patiently waiting for my appointment. After waiting 27 days I finally got my car to the Manchester branch on the 17th of March I was then took out by a guy who test drove the car to see what was causing the problem, he took the car out and instantly noticed a number of problems and upon returning back to the store told me he didn’t want me to drive the car back home as the car was unsafe (I cant remember his name but couldn’t fault the guy he was sound), I was told I’d receive a call within a day which I then surprise suprise never received. Im still chasing them now and about to report them to trading standards.

Put at ease by Owais. Very relaxed and helpful
Bought a car from Car Shop Swindon in 2017 with supposedly verified / certified history. When selling car 3 years later, have discovered that mileage at MOT in 2016 was higher than mileage when Car Shop MOT'd it in 2017 when I bought car. VERY SUSPICIOUS!! Now stuck with a possibly "clocked" car and zero help from Car Shop despite speaking to 5 different people and sending letters to 2 of their directors.
Sold a car to Carshop Swindon and have not received the money 8 days later. And worst of all they cut you off when you get through to customer services. Three times in one day?

What a horrendous experience I had at the Carshop Swindon. The purchase of my car has been a complete shambles with little apologies for the stress, time and money they've put me through. Full details of what happened below: 1)Test drove the car at the end of February, really liked it so wanted to buy it there and then. Needed a part exchange for a Mercedes SLK 03 and they offered me £80! sold to webuyanycar for £450 even though carshop say they offer the best part exchange rate. 2) Now i'd sorted selling my car elsewhere I discovered the car hadn't had a cam belt change, even though this is advised every 5 years (12 plate car). Carshop did agree to change this for me free of charge. Great. However, I called to confirm this on the Sunday and did not hear back until 5 days later despite several calls. 3) From confirmation, they would change this and it would take 5-10 working days. They said they'd look to get it done quicker as I was paying for a hire car and would speak to me to confirm this in the next 2 days..... I heard nothing for 2 and a half weeks. I called a total of 13 times, 8 occasions I managed to speak to someone and every time I was promised to be called back that day or in some cases within 30 minutes. All of these staff lied and just left me waiting. 4) Finally the day had arrived and it would be smooth sailing from here, however the debacle continued. It took us just under 3 hours to get the car. This was without a test drive, no part exchange and my details already in the system. You get constantly upsold on various car care, warranty, services etc and they look at If as if you're a moron for not taking these. To note, I've found a better deal elsewhere for every extra offered so shop around. You're passed as a piece of meat down the conveyor belt of 3 different people, all who leave you sitting for 20-30 minutes alone at a time. All in all a disgraceful experience.
My girlfriend's experience, CarShop Swindon has sold me a broken vehicle back in June. I was advised the warning light was the tyre pressure needing to be adjusted. 4 visits to halfords, 3 visits to Swindon missing work and college/uni later and the issue is not fixed. Car shop kept my car for two weeks to fix the impairments, and it still remained. I’ve stressed I’m a student, single mum and have a very low income. However now the cars back, and I’ve made complaints it is now broken again, less than 24 hours of getting my vehicle back This time my warranty is ‘out’ and I’m not covered as it’s over three months. The way that I have been treated by the customer service manager ‘paddy’ is disgusting and I was an easy target. Trading standards will be informed and any help/ advise would be appreciated.
Will in response to STAY AWAY
Hi, Read you review on Carshop Swindon, I am not sure who advised you that after three months you could not do anything as this is incorrect. The Consumer protection act 2015 clearly states that if a fault develops in the first 6 months then a dealership is legally bound to fix the issue as it is deemed to have been there at the time of purchase. This seems to be the case in your scenario. If the issue appeared after six months then you would need to prove that it was a pre existing issue that was present at the point of sale if so you are legally entitled to a refund, repair or replacement vehicle, Carshop Swindon use a company called DEKRA to inspect a faulty car so you should ask them to arrange an inspection. Under the CPA you can make a claim against the CarShop up to 6 years later. I know of two people who have purchased cars from the CarShop where the engines have failed within six months, for anyone else reading this I would do your research and avoid at all costs Hope this helps
