I bought a BMW 3 series from Den in October 2023. In order to take it away on the day I chose not to have it serviced. When the brakes failed a few weeks later, I put it down to bad luck and paid for the fix myself - the extra warranty that I'd been sold didn't cover it. The car failed its MOT in January 2024 for emissions and a missing catalytic converter - a straight pipe had been welded on instead. I went back to Den and he went on the attack straight away, claiming that I had removed it myself, or that it had been stolen, and criticising the garage that had failed the car - anything to avoid responsibility and having to pay. It was obvious that Den had sold me a car which wasn't road-worthy, and obviously I hadn't modded the car myself then taken it to an MOT. I asked Den to repair and re-MOT and he reacted angrily by text and threatening phone calls. He felt that he had no obligation to repair and again was very angry when I reminded him of his obligations under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. After a lot of back and forth, I brought it to Den's "independent garage" (his mate) who spent a few hours telling me the same old nonsense about how this car hadn't been originally fitted with a Cat, or that someone had stolen it and added on a straight pipe. They tried to dupe it through emissions tests to avoid fitting a new Cat. When this failed, several times, Den finally agreed to fit a new Cat, but insisted that we go halves on it. I was so tired after four weeks of his tantrums that I agreed and got out of there. I would not recommend buying from DW Smith Motors - if anything goes wrong you're on your own.

Avoid, avoid, AVOID!! Not to be trusted. Bought a Mercedes ML350 from Den Smith which broke down after 2 months which he refused to fix saying it was my fault for running it with no oil - despite apparently his garage giving it a full service prior to pick up. AA inspection found oil in the engine but further inspection needed which DD refused to pay for (despite the car having the garages Major Mechanical Breakdown Warranty (not worth the paper it's not written on!). I rejected the car as was my consumer right and raised a complaint with Trading Standards. Eventually got my money back after 6 months. I cannot stress enough, AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!!!

Thank you for your review, although factually incorrect. Firstly the vehicle was on finance so a 3rd party was involved. You desperately wanted the vehicle before Christmas and the dent man was in Spain to accommodate you. I gave you his contact number and told you to arrange a time for him to come out to your home after Christmas and I would pay, I offered you an independent warranty with a minimal cost the convenience of choosing a any garage to repair any fault that may arise anywhere in the country you declined, stating you knew you had major mechanical breakdown cover with myself, the garage on hindsight, that statement was worth noting! after Christmas, you contact me stating power, steering faulty. I booked you into local garage who checked power steering fluid topped up no faults a month later. You stated reverse parking sensor. Faulty booked vehicle into garage sense was ordered but you never bothered to show up. Third month you stated car was in limp mode when you drove it there was black smoke that it was a major mechanical breakdown and it was my responsibility. I ordered recovery vehicle no cost to you and ask you to run me through the events of the breakdown for clarity, this time you never drove the vehicle, just turned it on one morning engine was noisy, black smoke, bellowing out, no warning lights your perspective was a dealer repairs, a car or returns the money, however your vehicle was on finance the finance company were involved from the onset due to you clearing the vehicle of all personal possessions, rejecting the vehicle and requesting a finance reversed before the engine have been stripped and investigated at this point finance company took control. This vehicle is a Mercedes ML 350. They are bulletproof. They do not blow up. They do half a million miles easily due to this, finding a reconditioned engine was near on impossible, facts - the vehicle have been drained of oil and driven, this gave the finance company cause for deliberation, so you raised the dispute with the financial ombudsman. Eventually, they agreed to buy back the car and release you from your financial agreement. you had a vehicle for three months you drove at 1800 miles and had a very Merry Christmas you presumed I would foot the bill. The fact is the finance company owned your vehicle and they offered for me to buy back at a reduced rate due to its state which I agreed only once they were in receipt of the V5 and full service history which you held I knew at this point you had always had an agenda and after 4 months of you ignoring all the financial companies calls and emails. You finally returned the paperwork once the MOT expired. By this point, the vehicle reduced in Value further, so we had to renegotiate the buy back price, this is not personal to me or my garage as numerous people dealt with you from the finance company. Not sure you will ever be accepted and Finance again, however, after engine was finally sourced as I said these are bulletproof so no easy task and then repaired it was put up for sale on a positive note. After 11 months timeline a Genuine customer paid with no Finance & is delighted with the vehicle Nice to see you have been viewing my website for so long desperate to see the outcome of your work. Hope this has enlightened you. & happy new year
According to the advertisement, the car should be 75,000 When i was checking the car i could not check inside as there was no keys from the car . When the MOT was done I checked on gov.uk and the car had 77700 on the test not 75000 .When i texted to the garage owner he started be rude and he said there is not a problem only 2700 but for me was a big problem as i was looking for the car up to 75k for me, 2700 is half a year of using the car. When I asked for a refund the deposit he refused.but when I said I'd report the matter to Trading Standard he said i must to come to get my deposit. I said that i will be there next day at 4. 20 but unfortunately the trade was closed. Until today I have not received my deposit. The trade has been reported . I regret that I have not checked the previous user reviews who wrote just about the owner and his rude behavior because I could avoid all these unpleasantness!!!

Having seen a lovely car for sale on line with D W Motors I callled and spoke to Dennis and he gave me an honest opinion on the vehicle and sent me a video. Due to the lockdown and living 120 miles away I put down a deposit and picked the car up a week later. When I collected the vehicle I was delighted to see it was just as Dennis had described if not better. When I first spoke to Dennis I mentioned I was planning to tow a caravan and he very thoughtfully acquired a tow bar for me at a good price. Well done Dennis and Jamie you did me proud. All the best Kevin

Dealer was first very friendly. However, he sold the car to another customer AFTER I had paid a deposit and AFTER he agreed in writing that he received the deposit! He promised me to do an MOT and service and fix everything that would be an issue, I pointed out an issue in the MOT history and that this needs to get checked.....the next day he called me that he sold the car to another customer who did not request MOT,service etc and was VERY RUDE to me. So avoid, it is just a complete waste of your time!!!

response to jay love customers like you,you want the car at discounted price of £500 take it away the same day so like a fool i did it then you slate me. you messed me around for 2 hours arguing about price ect. the car had full BMW Service history just had mot so the tyres and brakes were good to pass. so stop telling lies jay. you messed me around with paying for the warranty not paying for it in full so i did not put it on straight away.and although he has got his 12 months warranty on the car now, not a nice person. regards den ,d w smith motors
