Purchased a 'mapped out ad blue delete' Vivaro LWB (DS68CVB) with numerous other faults. *** Untrustworthy, sits outside your house, takes your money and ignore you *** Don't be fooled... Den Smith - owner said he would not allow me to purchase the van on finance (pre arranged 3rd party) without directly and personally paying him a deposit of £500.00 because he did not trust them (connect me car finance / first response) He also said it protects him from scrupulous customers who use a vehicle then hand it back after two weeks because they changed their mind. Initially I thought you should treat everyone on their own merit but okay, I needed a Van and £10,995 seemed a decent price for a decent van.. oh, how wrong I was. I paid up awaiting confirmation from Den that the amount was received from the finance company so I could collect the Vivaro. I had to collect the van from a different location than the dealership but again, okay. He gave me the key and I asked where the second one was, he replied still at the dealership (was supposed to be present when I collected it – at least, that was his promise). He would though let me know when he had it... Week after week I asked (he didn’t update) for the key and was kept given the excuse, I am chasing them. This happened for as I say, weeks. In-between that time the Vivaro come up with several faults. I explained them to Den Smith but he wasn't very helpful. We don’t do 30 day hand backs here and It was fine when I was driving it was the answer I got. Not great for an £11k van! I also explained that I had topped up the Ad Blue because the Van said it was empty – 0% to top up... it overflowed immediately! I called Den and told him about this and he replied he forgot to tell me that when the vehicle had gone for MOT etc the repairing garage had informed him that the Ad Blue system had been mapped out. This was common practice and he sold one the other week that was exactly the same! I said I wasn’t happy and would like it looked at with the view of putting it back to how Vauxhall made it from factory. At first, he said, I don’t know. No one has ever asked me to do it... it won’t give you any trouble I promise. Anyway, he chopped and changed his mind from pillar to post whether to help. Meanwhile, I contact the finance company and told them... that's when Den decided to start texting me at midnight demanding I don’t use the vehicle any more as it's his van... not mine. I also said it had faults so Den replied it shouldn’t be driven because it could cause more damage... these faults weren’t engine related and whatever there was... was present when he sold it to me anyway I said I would use the vehicle until a technician said otherwise ( I had it booked in for new year with Den ) and he said no, that’s not how this works. I used the van the next day to go to the recycling centre to remove Christmas and house items that we accumulated over Christmas… Den was parked outside MY HOUSE on New Years Eve. This was at 4pm so god only knows how long he had been waiting?! Den followed me to the recycling centre and filmed (whilst driving) me and my wife unloading the van of our household items, luckily I have this on dashcam! I confronted Den about this and he wheelspun off around in the road and hit my left leg – thigh, laughing his head off out the window driving up the road. I contacted the police and their investigating at present. Needless to say I spoke to the finance company again and the Van was collected by a 3rd party for a hand back on Saturday 04/01/2025 and as of today 13/01/2025 I haven’t received my £500 deposit back. I have been informed that he does have 14 days to refund me and the finance company but… it takes 24h to send a refund to the finance company and he could of paid me via BACS like I did for him in 2 minutes!!! I wonder if I will receive it back in full… maybe… on day 13! Now, ask yourself, do you want to be getting into business with someone who can act like this? You have, like a few other reviews, clearly been warned. Do yourself a favour and just steer clear of D W SMITH MOTORS and avoid DS68CVB… yes it is back up for sale with the same dealer, the same original picture and the same original text ( two mileages given on advert now ) that’s because I had the van for 4 weeks! *** Avoid, drive away, turn around ***

D W Smith Motors from DW Smith Motors in response to Untrustworthy, unprofessional

thank you for your review, factually incorrect, i had never heard of your finance broker before & am aware of scams with people wanting full finance using vehicle adding miles damaging them then leaving all to dealer so i do request some form of deposit. I do have all your texts, photographic & yes video evidence, you are aware there is not just myself involved in this sale your finance company is also advised. You purchased your van on 26.11.24 text me later that evening to state you'd taken van to a mechanic friend who said AdBlue showed nil reading, although vehicle drives perfectly & I replied that you were welcome to return the vehicle if you were unhappy with it, as I was not aware of AdBlue reading nil, it had just been serviced & Mot'd drove perfectly fine no warning lights had shown to highlight any fault, that in the commercial world newer vans that historically had problems with the Adblue systems, that purchasing second hand on some vans the previous owners had had them removed to be cost effective it did not affect the emissions or the driving capabilities it was just that certain AdBlue systems had caused a series of problems that had caused extensive costs to van owners so this was something that I was aware of. No, I did not have it mapped or removed. You had made me aware of this. i am a salesman not a mechanic. It was not detrimental to the vehicle & you stated you had also heard of this as its widely known. Never heard from you again until 28 days later as your 30 day rejection clause fell on Christmas day, so you text me to say the vehicle had squeaky seat squeaky brakes & struggled to start, I called you immediately & offered to drive you over a battery to address start & said in this weather squeaky brakes do occur seat can be looked at, could you bring it back to get looked at. You said you had delivery obligations over Christmas & you'd get it back to me after Christmas. it transpired later that You actually rejected the car with the finance company that same day stating AdBlue fault, (yet you knew this 28 days earlier text evidence submitted) used it anyway (free motoring)I contacted you after Christmas to collect the vehicle to get it looked at & you text to say you didn't want it anymore & had rejected it with finance company it was now banging from the engine & you were within your rights as it was not mechanically sound 27.12.24 I called, you didn't answer so I text to ask you not to continue to drive the vehicle if it had a banging noise from the engine, I would get it collected by transport company as any further driving would be detrimental to the vehicle. No warranty would cover any damage if caused by negligence from the owner. I asked each day thereafter to arrange collection of the van as by this point the finance co had informed me that you did in fact reject the vehicle on 23.12.24 due to adblue not banging engine as you stated to me. on 30.12.24 I asked if transport co could collect next day 31.12.24 you stated you were out of town going to London to watch the fireworks & wouldn't be back until the new year, by this point id cottoned on & knew you were still driving it, that there was nothing mechanically wrong with it, I did drive by your house & see you outside loading the van up subsequently driving of to the tip & you spotted me & where infuriated that I had caught you red handed yes I had videoed you driving the ( van that was not roadworthy & rejected on 23.12.24) you threw stone or something at my car as you shouted I was stalking you & I replied that in fact you had refused to hand back my vehicle that I now owned as you had in fact rejected it the week prior. 30 day rejection is in fact that not 41 days once you had fulfilled your delivery schedule. I reported all of this to the police & at no point did I strike you with my vehicle ABH or an RTA would be taken very seriously if it had occurred! Your dashcam would also show you doing all of the above! Funnily enough the only people you contacted was the finance co to instruct them to instruct me to collect my vehicle on Saturday 3.1.25 which we obliged. I stated 5.1.25 as you had not returned the service history or the V5 I would not refund the finance, so you walked (no damaged leg from RTA) later on the Monday 5.1.25 into my son's garage as closer to you & handed over the paperwork! The returned vehicle was not in same state as it was sold to you broken d/s wing mirror broken wheel trim you removed brand new wheel from the inside of the van, large scratch through the paint d/s side opening door, d/s rear corner scuffs & P/S scratch all needing paint, holes in dash all of these photo evidence was supplied to the finance company. also i do not remove video from youtube so this can be viewed anytime to clarify the van at point of sale & video of now. Including your text on 26.11.24 stating you were happy with the vehicle & were aware of the AdBlue. But vehicle was mechanically sound not a grumble or a rumble! checked over by independant garage to confirm. some finance companies send out AA or RAC or their own mechanical engineers to inspect rejected vehicles prior as they are use to tricks like the above, but your finance company sent nobody easy scam for you. The finance company on reading through all my evidence stated you clearly always had a game plan & I didn't need customers like this. That although I had refunded the financial agreement, I was within my rights to withhold the £500 deposit as a contribution for the additional costs I had now incurred repairing the damage on the vehicle stated above, mechanical issues dealer is responsible the external damage caused by neglect & poor driving was the owners. That I was to get costings to put right you the owner had done & then let them know & yourself. You text & called demanding your deposit back & I calmly stated all of the above & you lost it, told me was I that sad that I wanted the wheel back from the back of the van well come & get it! next day this review appears. You didn't get your own way; I will not be bullied by people who take advantage of systems in place to protect genuine people from rouge motor traders. I have been trading for over 40 years my reviews on Autotrader are monitored & verified sadly some review platforms allow anyone to slander genuine businesses without verification all you need is an email!
