This man from E Cars runs limited liability car dealerships selling inferior and often unroadworthy cars. Every several years he declares himself bankrupt leaving creditors and customers in the lurch. He continues trading immediately because he's already set up yet another Ltd company and cannot be held personally liable for his debts. It is surprising that HMRC haven't investigated him with a view to bringing criminal proceedings against him. Trading Standards are aware of Mr Smith and his activities, but are almost powerless to do anything about it because..................he declares his Ltd company bankrupt (with no personal liability) and starts again under a new Ltd company name that he will have registered with Companies House in advance. Look up ECARSUK Ltd on Companies House website!
John Smith in response to Worst of the Worst
This company falsely advertises 15 service bays with viewing area. MOT certification and a spraying booth. None of this is true and should be reported to trading standards for false advertising. I will personally report this to watchdog and hopefully nobody else will be ripped off in the future.
Bought a car for a price well over what it was worth. Naive of me to buy a car off this man but I’d avoid him at all costs. Claims to be a VW specialist but just sells on dodgy damaged cars at the end of their lives. When I eventually went on to sell the car I bought off him- it turned out he’d never even sent off the form to put the car in my name! Couldn’t write it

John Smith in response to Avoid at all costs
Never a truer word spoken. I suggest you look at his latest website which is Robert Smith cars Cardiff and tell me how he has 15 service bays and staff capable of doing MOT work. He has one unit with no facilities to do any repair work. This company should yet again be reported to trading standards and once and for all be closed down. False advertising is misleading and shows Robert Smith for who he truly is. A crook.
Bought a car from E Cars UK last September and have had no issues. Transaction was simple, test drive arranged with ease and Rob was easily contactable with any little queries I had regarding the car prior to purchase and after purchase. The only downfall I would say is that there was only one key when purchasing the car. Overall, the car is running fine, and the service I received was professional and I had a fair deal.
Purchased a vw golf off Rob at Ecars I wanted to return the car 1 day after purchasing it as it was not as described or the imperfections were not pointed out to me. It has 105,820 miles on the clock it was advertised as 102.000 miles! One of the wheel rim caps is missing and a piece of plastic is broken off inside the boot, stone chip on drivers side windscreen. When I asked Rob for a full refund he was very unprofessional saying that I knew about the discrepancy in the mileage and the correct mileage was on the invoice but this was also not the case on the invoice the mileage stated 104,111 miles! I sent him a picture of the current mileage and one of the invoice to which he then stated he would take the car back but wouldn't be able to refund me the money for up to 21 days! I questioned this as this seemed very odd to me usually if you buy something and return it you get refunded the same day. Also I don't know him personally so who is to say if I gave the car back how would I know that he was 100% going to refund me within 21 days? With this he started to get very abusive towards me. I still haven't had the situation resolved by him but I am in talks with trading standards now so let's hope I can get this resolved and him and his shoddy business closed down. Don't waste your time going to Ecars worst experience ever!

Robert Smith from E Cars UK in response to Avoid this man
This lady was offered a refund the day after she bought the vehicle . The vehicle was as she inspected it with all the points she claims she was not aware of that were pointed out to her by me when she and her partner viewed and test drove the car . I have always treated this lady with respect and professionalism at all times ,
Natalie in response to Avoid this man
I had the exact same thing happen to me. Returned a faulty car on 1st Dec and still not seen a penny! I have just contacted Watchdog, it seems like he’s done it to a few of us.
I purchased a car from E Cars UK in 21 August 2018, i sent a deposit by TT to his bank, and sent a copy of the transfer. After several days he denied getting the transfer and sold the car, after several weeks he stated the transfer was still not in his bank account. I assumed my bank were at fault and contacted them, they did a trace on the transfer and with the help of his bank were able to supply me with proof that transfer had indeed been placed into his account, at this stage he was still denying that the transfer was in his account. I again sent him proof, i was able to supply him with the date and the page number on his statement.... so after many weeks he eventually agreed that the transfer was indeed in his bank... but was more annoyed that his bank gave my bank the information, he then stated after many texts to send back the money. But as of today still no Joy with the transfer. I have to say apart from the loss of my money my dealings with man was the most unpleasant car buying experience of my life.. the amount of the deposit is not enough to warrant legal action so it seems the only thing i can do is warn people to avoid this man and his dealership. I only wish i could publish the text messages from this man so people could see what they are dealing with.

John Smith in response to To be AVOIDED at all costs
You can publish the response if you have evidence of what has happened with no comebacks. Speak to a solicitor for free advice and he or she will confirm this.
In June 2018, I was persuaded to view an E-cars car in Cardiff in large part, by this text from Rob, the proprietor: “It’s only a short distance [from Bristol]. If you buy, I will deliver the car to you.” On June 25th, I received this text: “It’s ready to go! I can deliver within 24 hrs of payment.” I paid that day, but Rob never delivered the car. He refused on the basis the train was running a bus replacement and he was “not prepared to undertake the journey.” A week later, he agreed to deliver to a station 9 miles from my home, but he stood me up, blaming traffic (Google indicated 20min delay) and the heat. This is the text he sent me: “It costs me to deliver, I said I would do as a favour. There’s a problem with the trains and traffic. That’s what happens in life!” Rob is unapologetic, aggressive and defensive; nothing is ever his fault. It’s you and your unrealistic expectations. 10 days after I paid, I took the train he wouldn’t and collected the car myself. Rob never refunded my train fares, as he indicated he would, and, as I drove away from the pick-up in Cardiff, the fuel light came on. Six weeks later, the car broke down. Rob told me that because I only paid £4.4k and it’s a 2009 model, “it should be expected.” He did offer to look at the car, but only if I brought it to him in Cardiff. I covered the cost of a local repair in Southampton (where I broke down) to avoid the cost and risk of further interaction with Rob. And you may waft me down with a feather if Rob does not maintain that none of this was his fault. No mortal man such as he, can control the trains, the traffic and the temperament of clapped-out cars and he threw in a free service! However, he also shouts, immediately wailed that I had besmirched his name, has no worldly grasp on the concept of customer service and an ostrich approach to problem management. If you cannot make a meeting Rob, tell me before you’re already late. He is also based in Cardiff. All this renders the mitigation based around services from his garage, rather worthless. Rob will not go the extra mile to meet his promises, pre-emptively manage situations or initiate contact once you have paid. I warn future customers not part with their money until the car is delivered. If you aren’t local, take note of the particulars of the warranty. I am happy to provide anyone with screenshots and sales documentation in the event Rob (as he does will all his negative reviews) rolls out our favourite Trumpism and claims this is ‘fake news.’ Let’s hope he just wails about the trains, the heat, the traffic and the silly old car he claimed was in impeccable condition 6 weeks ago. It took no small amount of restraint after that fuel light beeped Rob, not to write this review. “It should be expected” just earned you it. Sir, you besmirch yourself.

robert smith from E Cars UK in response to A very disappointing experience
This review is totally inaccurate and false ,this lady has posted this review in an attempt to discredit this company as she feels aggrieved . The Lady was contacted by me some days after enquiring about a 1.6 petrol Golf five door that she was looking for to inform her that we had such a vehicle coming in to stock in a few days ,Having travelled to Cardiff to view the vehicle she decided to buy ,after she had told me she would buy the car I informed her that I would deliver it to Bristol for her not as part of the deal but as part of the service ,she then told me she wanted an AA inspection of the car just to make sure the car was as I said it was. Having had the AA inspect the vehicle and they gave it the glowing report the car was bought . I attempted to deliver but on the first occasion I was stuck on the M4 in traffic for five hours (an accident )and had to turn back ,about this time Rail track were starting work on electrification and the Severn tunnel and it was closed for work to be carried out ,and they operated a bus service from Bristol Temple Meads to Cardiff ,this journey took over three hours I know as between the aborted trip and the propose second attempt to deliver I delivered a vehicle to Bridgwater and I was stuck on the bus with out air conditioning for this time in the sweltering heat ,and its not advised . before I could deliver on the second occasion ,I was planning to get back via Gloucester ,the Lady collected the car her self . as for any warranty work we have always informed the Lady we can look at any problems when ever she would like. It is imposable to keep everybody happy as most people would understand ,

Nothing I wrote is untrue. Quotes are lifted verbatim from text messages. I provided all these messages to Car Dealer Reviews on request, or the review would not have been published. Rob broke his promises, he is an aggressive and defensive person and the car broke down after 6 weeks. It’s worth noting that on every unfavourable review, Rob just calls the reviewer a liar. Heaven forfend he acknowledge his mistakes, apologise or try to make amends. If he did, some of the poor reviews may have been removed. His ranting incoherent response to my review only confirms the nature of his character (as well as pretty much everything I initially wrote. Classic!).

Ms Gardener ,I don't know what you are expecting ,the AA informed you how Fantastic the vehicle was that you bought from Ecarsuk in June( we have not sold a vehicle in better condition than we sold to you ,) we have not seen you regarding any problem you might have with you car ,that was supplied with more than enough fuel to get from Cardiff to Bristol we offered to deliver the vehicle free of charge to your home ,I feel we have gone that extra mile ,To solve any problems with your car ,I will offer you a full refund for your Golf bought in June within the next 7 days subject to inspection ,This will solve all your issues with this horrible car .
Lizy in response to A very disappointing experience
You never saw the AA inspect report Mr Smith – the AA was working for me. The AA never said it was “fantastic” – indeed a few minor issues were raised on the report that I decided to forgo. It did break down, I’ve since repaired it. The fuel light did come on as I left Cardiff and you did promise to deliver free of charge – but you never did. What I expected was for you to deliver on your promises and remain professional, sympathetic and calm when issues arose. Instead, you got angry, called me a liar and then told numerous lies (see above) to try and defend yourself. I never said the car was “horrible”, I have honestly relayed the issues I have had, both with the car and you.
Robert Smith from E Cars UK in response to A very disappointing experience
Mz Gardener You just like making a fuss ,the AA inspected your vehicle on our premises and informed you of how good the nine year old motor vehicle that you were proposing to buy from us was confirming what I had told you ,I assume that's why you bought it . I have tried to deliver the car to you in Bristol and met a five hour delay on the motor way during which my phone died . I am calm and sympathetic at all times ,you negotiated a very keen price and bought a first rate nine year old car in fantastic condition , it only had a few gallons of fuel in it when you collected it ,an acceptable amount of fuel to most people . Now this is where we are ,I have offered you a full refund for a vehicle you bought from me in June this year ,you have called me a Liar and have accused me of being un professional ,If you do not remove this damming inaccurate review I will be issuing legal proceedings against you
Very happy with my VW Polo, very low mileage and great condition. The sale was quick and easy with a free service and MOT included. Excellent customer service from Robert too. A great selection of cars at low prices, highly recommended.

I went to Ecar on my dinner break from work and after seeing a vw cc that was a little over my budget rob managed to do me a great deal on the car so I was able to afford it, he even had it cleaned that night so I could pick it up the next morning. Brilliant service from a genuine professional car salesman. I am very happy with my car and the service provided by rob. If your after a quality used car I would recommend 100%. Thanks again.
