My Captur broke down and had to be towed for repair, as I was moving house I had little option than to take it to the main dealer in Sighthill in Edinburgh. Henceforth renamed “main stealer”. I have no qualms about the work but the hourly rate is ridiculously high at around £132 + The dreaded VAT. Don’t be fooled into authorising more than one hour for diagnosis- I foolishly went for 2 and for that got a “free” report on brakes etc. Something I neither needed or asked for. In fact the RAC guy that towed me in plugged in his diagnostic unit and had me pump the accelerator a few times and he diagnosed that the turbo had failed. Why did Renault take 2 hours and £264 to diagnose the same thing? Pretty obvious to me. Turns out the new turbo was not brand new but was a refurbished unit but Renault approved for around £900! Warranty? 3 months! The whole job, for 8 hours work cost £2700 odd ! Bottom line, unless you have a Renault warranty that the Stealer can capitalise on, stay well clear of Renault. If you buy a used, out of Renault warranty, car, they will (allegedly) try hard to tell you they are not liable if it goes wrong. I recommend that you take your car to the Clifton garage at East Calder, they are brilliant with Renault cars, can do the same level of diagnostic work and are a fraction of the Stealers hourly rate. Plus they talk and discuss your problem. Once the Stealer had my cash, I didn’t get a response from the same guy that kept calling me to tell me that it might take longer due to the possibility of seized nuts and bolts, hence they would need more time to fix etc. My car came back with a banging from the front near side that it didn’t have when it went in. They wouldn’t entertain my calls or texts. They did tell me that it was my shock absorber or front hub, the master mechanic had diagnosed that and would I like a cost to fix sir? Turns out there was nothing at all wrong with any of that! TAKE CARE, I recommend that you steer well away from Evans Halshaw. Go to Clifton garage instead.

Yesterday my daughter and I had the very worst customer service we have ever received from the Manager of Evans Halshaw Dacia in Edinburgh named Paul and his assistant Kirsty. My daughter has a Dacia under 2 years old, And the front windscreen is leaking profusely from the top. we practically begged the service manager to come and look at it or to send a mechanic and even although the car was parked at the front door, he flatly refused and informed us that he would run a hose over it and if it didn’t leak, he would charge £126 for his time. We told him we had witnesses who saw the rain running down the inside and he said he wasn’t interested. So basically, he refused to take about 10 steps to the door and check it out, in the rain, whilst it was actually running down the inside of the windscreen. No, he’d rather run a hose over it, which will not accurately simulate rain and charge us £126. The man is a total disgrace and should not be let lose on the public imo. I’m wondering if he refused to look at the problem when it was 10 steps away from his desk and actually happening so that he could deny it and charge us £126. Asked him about a refund he had approved for my husbands car months ago and he blamed Renault and did not even offer to look into it. Most unhelpful person I have ever met
Absolute nightmare, bought a used car in good faith even purchased service plan etc. From first day we received the car there has been issues real issues. Seven weeks on never get replys from emails keep taking car back to garage keep gettting told its fixed. Few days later back again. Next step social media/news papers would make a good story. Think a refund is well within my rights.

I ordered my car for collection in October 2011. When I collected the car I would say that the salesman was in a hurry to get rid of me as soon as possible, the original sales person not in the premises. I informed him that it was not the specification that I had ordered. It did not have power windows in the rear and other features that I cannot recall. He shrugged his shoulders. I contacted Vauxhall when I got home, they explained to me that it appears that I had been sold a hybrid model. Something between the older model and the new model that was due out in October 2011. I will never go back to this dealer as the overall experience of sales, servicing has been atrocious. I was quire disgusted that they had not put any fuel in the car, it was not until I asked did they put a few litres in to the tank. Just enough to get me to the nearest garage. Custom services need improving by 90% before I go back to them.
