Brought a car from here in October of this year, was told that the car had been looked over and serviced, they urged me to pay out for the warranty, and there was also a smell in the car which they said was from 'valleting'. The car had absolutely no fluids in it (oil, coolant etc) so they all needed filling upon purchasing. Within a couple of weeks of having it the airbag light came on, and the alternator needed replacing. When this was being fixed it come to my attention that the car was also missing a wheel nut. A couple of weeks after, the car starting making a horrible noise, turns out it needed all new brake pads and all new brake discs, caused from the wires in the handbrake not working, thus those also needing replacing. Warranty did not cover any of this, to top it all off the car still smells of damp from the 'valleting'. The garage sold me car that had not been serviced or checked over. It was completely not safe to drive and quite frankly dangerous to sell.

I had a similar experience early in 2017. See my comment added to the negative December review. I was called all the names under the son by these people. Some of the reviews i posted have been removed without the review company involved even contacting me so I can only suggest these particular companies do not have the publics best interest at heart. I have documentation from very official bodies outlining the state my car was in. I also involved trading standards. I HAVE PROOF. I got all the emails from first gear trying to make out i was stupid like you have. He even took the roof lining out of my car you know to prove my pan roof was not cracked......yes i have that in writing. I won my case and got my money back as very fortunately i paid by card. If anyone wishing to take things further wants to involve me and use my documentation then contact me via this site as i am happy for you to use it. This trader should not be allowed to trade. I am also told by somebody that knows the dealer very well that's lots of the positive comments are posted by people he knows and not actually people that buy the cars. I cant comment if this is true or not but when you read some of the reviews it makes you wonder as they are not written how most people would write. The post about students ...... they are going to be well ripped off. What do most students know about cars ....... nice move first gear!!!! I took being ripped off very personally so thats why im still on these sites.

We are sorry to hear you that the car you bought from us is not performing to your expectations. I can assure you we take customers complaints very seriously. I am sure if you purchase an item from any superstore that may be not according to your taste, that you go through the general complaints procedure in order to make things right. On this occasion I have investigated your comments and found no records of you contacting us to let us know of your difficulty. But before I can make an adjustment we will need to know who you are and that you are a genuine existing customer. I have no records of your name on our system. Firstly, I can assure you that all our cars undergo an inspecction by an independant qulaified mechanic beofre it being displayed for sale to confirm it is serviced, fully functioning and safe to drive on the road, it is a standard that we advice our customers who purchase a second hand car to be driven regularly, especily in the cold seasons as this may affect battery life and other car components if it is parked outdoors. From what you mention, it sounds ike you may have wear and tear where it could be easily rectified. Seondly, you mention that you were pressured from our side into buying a car warranty. I can clarify and confirm that we are in the car dealership business and we are not an warranty service, if a customer buys a car from us, it automatically comes with a three months warranty. However, if any cutomer would like to upgrade we offer them the liberty to do so at an extra cost where we make no commission on their policy. Thirdly, all our customers test drive our cars before purchase, and there is no restrictions on the time needed to make sure they are happy with the car before they make any decision. I am sure if you are a genuine customer, you would deffinetly have had the opportunity to do so and you were statisfied with the car on the day of purchase. If there was a noise or any issues with the car you would have noticed it on the spot. Lastly, all our cars get valeted at no extra cost to be passed our customer in order to keep high standards of our car's interior and exterior. It is a routine if a car valeted is to keep the windows open for ventilation and we always make our customers aware of that. If the customer does not follow the advice given, there is nothing we can do about it as the car in the customer's possesion. Finally, positive feedback from satisfied customers is our greatest reward as we pride ourselves to to provide exceptional customer service and on this occassion we are giving you the opportunity and extend our good will gesture for you to contact us, and for us to be in a position to remedy the situation if you are a genuinely bought a car from us
My parents always peurchased their vehicles from Mr bekery and I purchased my first car from him. He was able to hook me up with always there when I have questions or concerns! I would recommend first gear autos to anybody fresh out of college and is looking for a good car.
I bought a car just over 4 months ago, I called this car dealer with a slight issue with my headlights, and wipers. Initially I was informed that they were working as expected when I bought the car, which is true. The chap asked me to bring the car over so they could see how they could assist, I brought it the next morning. They told me that this is chargeable job which I agreed to pay as surely after checking my warranty policy it was not included. Later on in the afternoon I collected my car, and when I came to pay it was said to me that the job is on them, as a goodwill gesture. I never came across such nice dealer before. Many thanks for the complementary job guys. These guys are highly recommended. Next time I know where to go for future cars.
Car was just as described. Great price drives perfect no problem. Very helpfull staff would highly recommend First Gear Autos.

Bought an Audi A6 from First Gear Autos less than three months ago. Car was up on autotrader for 2.4k. Went up later that day, test drove it and said we'd buy it. He pulled up the ad and it turned out that he changed the price to 3k during the test drive. This should have set off alarm bells but we needed a car so after much negotiation, eventually got him down to what it was priced at before the test drive. Less than a month after buying the car the Egr valve and fuel filters both needed replacement. Warranty wouldn't cover this and after ignoring many emails and calls, neither would the dealer so I'm £800 out of pocket. Showed a mechanic the warranty papers and apparently it's as good as useless. Currently going through consumer affairs to recoup some of my costs. Beware this dealer.

FIRST GEAR AUTOS from First Gear Autos in response to Not to be trusted
In response to the above posting, please see the most recent correspondence sent to the customer. Dear Mr Dunne, In response to your recent correspondence. The first I knew about any issue that you had with your Audi was when you emailed me at the end of August and you purchased the vehicle on July 6th. I also emailed you to inform you that you have a 3 month warranty and also asked you to provide me with a mechanic's report to see if there was anything else that we could do to help out. I also mentioned that if the issue was with a wear and tear component then this warranty or indeed any warranty would probably not cover the fault. As far as your recent comment is concerned that you claim you have given us an opportunity to resolve and fix the problem, well that is just untrue. At no point have you brought the vehicle back to us nor have you provided me with the requested mechanics report. And furthermore you yourself state that you have been given several differing stories as to the cause of the fault. You cannot have a repair carried out without any authorisation and then expect me to foot the bill, that is not acceptable or reasonable. To this date I have not had the opportunity to inspect the vehicle or have it inspected by my mechanics. Furthermore, now that you have had works carried out albeit unauthorised, it is now impossible for anyone to accurately determine the cause of the fault or the extent to which any rerpairs or replacement parts would be deemed necessary. As far as the warranty is concerned, i would question a mechanic's ability to pass comment on the ‘value’ of such a document and reiterate that wear and tear issues are not covered and refer you to the warranty booklet for full details. Regards, First Gear autos

I've had the same problem with a bmw that I purchased had it independently inspected to be informed it's got 20 faults, I'd been ringing and emailing and texting for 6 week's with all being ignored, I'm now taking him to court to get my money back, he thinks he's above the law, in my opinion he should be avoided at all costs. You should have contacted trading standards first before having any work done, read the reviews I've posted there's 3 in total.

Luckily, when the dealer wasn't being very helpful I researched my rights and gave them the opportunity to repair it themselves, replace it or cover some of the costs for me to repair it. I offered this on two separate emails which I have proof of and on a phone call which I can retrieve the logs of. They still refused so I had no other choice but to repair it myself and go through the courts to recoup some of my losses. Since posting this review they've emailed me (after weeks of ignoring me) back saying they weren't given the opportunity to fix the problem and I shouldn't have fixed it myself. Unfortunately it's dealers like this that give the industry a bad name.

I would like to point out that when you purchased the car, you were aware that the vehicle was very competitively priced as the car had done over 197000 miles although it did have a full service history. The issue that you have with the car, whilst unfortunate, is I believe something that could occur through normal wear and tear with a vehicle of this age and mileage.
I Bought a Kia car from First Gear Autos five months ago ,decided to go for a petrol car this time, the car is spot on, it has not given me a moments trouble. Very pleased with the car it was good value for money ,so would recommend them ,and certainly use them again
