I am extremely disappointed with the service I've received from VW. My experience has been a series of frustrating events that have left me questioning the quality and customer service of this dealership. It all started when I initially enquired about a car on the 9th of July, 2024. Upon seeing it in person, the car was in such poor condition that it looked like it had been chewed up and spat out from the inside. This wasted my time, and I had to order another vehicle. After proceeding with the purchase of a different vehicle and finalizing all finances on the 11th of July, I had to wait another five full days while the so-called “Checks” and MOT were done. When I finally collected the vehicle on the 16th of July, I discovered the door trim and drop glass were damaged. I raised this issue with the manager, Mark Thompson, who spoke with the initial sales executive, John Mallon. They assured me that a new drop glass and door trim would be ordered on the 18th of July. Despite being told that the parts would arrive in 7-10 days, I had to wait a full two weeks. When I dropped the car off to VW today, I was informed by John Mallon that the drop glass was wrong, and now I have to wait another 7-10 days for the correct part to arrive. Adding insult to injury, I recently had a Selector Lever Warning Light come on and booked the car in for investigation. I specifically requested—four times—not to get the car dirty as I had just paid nearly £200 to have it detailed. When I picked up the car, it had white marks all over it. After sending pictures to the aftersales guy, Ryan Dickinson, he brushed it off, saying they were just watermarks. However, after trying to wipe them off, I was left with a greasy film all over the car. Throughout this entire ordeal, the sales team blames the service department, and the service department blames the sales team. It’s a constant cycle of passing the buck, and it’s incredibly frustrating. My car has been back to the dealership a good 8 times, and although they have eventually fixed all the issues, dealing with them has been an absolute nightmare. The lack of attention to detail, poor communication, and disregard for customer requests are unacceptable, especially after spending over £18,000 on a vehicle. I expected much better from VW, and I am deeply disappointed. I would not recommend this dealership to anyone and strongly advise you to take your business elsewhere if you want a hassle-free experience.

My sons car went in as a carpet was wet and we thought there was a leak. They made him sign to say the work would cost up to £375. When we went to collect the car after assessment, they told us a seal needed replacing and we had to pay £90 for the assessment before they would let us have the car back, and then book it in for having the work done, a further £270 just to change a seal. I protested and was told that everyone charges for you to check the car. We could not have the car back until I paid the £90. DON'T HAVE WORK DONE HERE !
I recently visited VW Bolton to see their range of new vehicles. The salesperson, David, was polite, informative, and was able to show me which car best suited my needs. He obviously knew his job and the vehicles very well. He didn’t rush me and helped me feel my custom was important even though I won’t be buying a car for a few weeks. I will definitely go back and buy the car from Inchcape and will be asking for him.

Bolton Used Car Centre - if you intend dealing with these people, you need to be prepared to deal with issues like these. Note that I challenged each as and when they occurred and the response received was similar in all cases – that there is nothing they can do, it’s their policy or someone else (within Inchcape) sets the rules. In other words, it wasn’t just a bad day or a rogue employee. This is how they operate. • When I expressed an interest in this car, they quickly changed the price and said it had been wrongly priced up and that this is unavoidable with such a large operation • Part exchange valuations will be lower than the lowest end of any other scale you can find • As part of their ‘offer’ they may try and offer a ‘specialist’ vehicle polish, which apparently has a market value. This will not be done and is worthless • At vehicle collection, the body work/finish was actually worse than when I had chosen the car several days previously. This was only rectified after I returned on two additional occasions • The original number plates were replaced with Inchcape branded plates so they can have some free advertising. This would be fine except were not properly secured - the plate was not screwed on via the original holes - so they fell off • Despite having asked about the date of last service, it was not updated in the service manual. It was only updated after me asking • I have doubts as to whether this service has actually been completed • They agreed to complete the documentation necessary for me to get the V5 registration document. This involved a £25 fee. This was simply not done and several months afterwards I had to do this myself. They refused to reimburse me. They claimed their original cheque sent to DVLA had been returned shortly after they sent it – yet they didn’t tell me and I had to rectify and pay for this myself. Good luck.

I recently purchased a car from Inchcape used car centre Bolton and the service I received was nothing less than superb. Absolutely no fuss from start to finish and I couldn't be happier with the car! To say car shopping is difficult is an understatement as it lies within such a vast market and having a dedicated, trustworthy and reliable salesman is priceless. I would like to personally thank Jon for making what should be a stressful ordeal such a breeze, nothing was to much trouble and Jon kept us informed every step of the way. Rest be assured that you will be highly recommended to friends and family - thanks again.
Just bought new car from VW Bolton, a little unsure due to not being able to visit, however I was put at ease by Martin. I was offered lots of advice and videos, I was constantly updated with progress. And found the process very easy to complete.. I be had follow up emails to ensure I am happy with the new car. Fantastic service!

Not only was I allowed to test drive a car that I was interested in. But I went through the whole process of purchasing the car. I live 2 hours away from the dealership so when I got the phone call to go collect the car I set straight off. Only to receive a call an hour into my drive telling me to turn round and go home as they couldn’t sell me the car due to it being UNSAFE to be driven on the road due to chassis damage...this is a car I had already driven on the roads to test drive it. Not only that but I have had to be the one contacting them to rectify the situation. Very little responsibility taken.
Thank You Gareth Wilshaw of Volkswagen Bolton, i am a motabillity customer i needed lots of help with my car choice Gareth went over and above to get me sorted and back on the road my car is my lifeline ,am happy customer thanks to Gareth.
