We rented two vans, on the day of renting one was changed to a smaller van without warning. A smaller van, but not a cheaper one! Two days after returning them, John (the proprietor) claimed damage to the Luton van (a damp old 205k mile workhorse with more damage than a Ukrainian Refinery, broken radio, useless wipers and dodgy horn), there was a 2 inch dent on the driver's side 10 feet off the ground, In a place it would be impossible to hit anything with. He claimed we had damaged it but at no point had we hit anything. He fixed the blemish himself after renting the van out the very next day, (losing no money) so there was no reason to keep the £250 deposit, as the repair would've been almost free. Will never use this company again, poor vehicles and awful customer service. Other Yell reviews reflect a similar experience with losing deposits. Avoid!!

We recently spent a week on the Isle of Wight in out Motorhome. To be able to get down the small lanes to see the best of the island we hired a car for 3 days. We have 2 small Jack Russells so we’re not sure if we would be able to get a car. We ended up with South Wight Rentals, hiring an automatic Hyundai Getz. Maybe not my first choice, but with 2 dogs and with no notice, we were really happy to get anything. The car was great, even on the steep hills. I have read some of the feedback and felt I needed to provided a good review. Thanks!

Awful experience. To start with John seemed nice enough. However on arrival for pick up he was rude and difficult. Did not complete a proper check over of vehicle - we had to ask for it, he was annoyed and refused to write anything down, we had to record on our phones. Also did not provide any documentation on the car hire or the t&c's. After drop off I had to follow up with John regarding the deposit, which he refused to refund in full. When I asked why he didn't contact to discussed he stated he did not have my contact details, despite having both email and phone communications. When I asked for a receipt for the additional costs he refused to provide this and the emails were increasingly unprofessional / outright rude. Is not a member of the BVRLA and because he did not provide any documentation on the hire there is nothing I can do about it. I've seen other reviews (after the fact) that he's done this before. Seems he knows how to get a bit extra from unsuspecting customers.
