Bought a Mini Cooper from Philip Mailey, JC Halliday Mid Ulster. The type of 2nd hand car salesman who gives 2nd hand car sales men a bad name. The car came under the Spoticar Car Scheme which is meant to have a comprehensive multi-point check on the vehicle before it leaves the dealership (supposedly by a highly qualified independent mechanic). No sooner had I got the car home than I identified that one of the keys was dead! (In fairness, a replacement battery was sent when I raised the issue.) Shortly after this I noticed issues with the wipers, all 3 of which are clearly in bad condition, missing bits of the screen, screeching, etc. I complained and a colleague of Phil’s tried to blame me(!) When I was insistent that one would expect the wipers on a newly purchased (admittedly 2nd hand) car to last more than a week or two. Phil was accommodating but when I received the replacement wiper blades, they were the wrong size and clearly the cheapest, crap wiper blades they could find that retail for a couple of quid. Like the decent ones that were on the car only cost a tenner! So I bought my own. Either their mechanic is an incompetent idiot or a liar, or Phil is the liar. Either way, the Spoticar Scheme and the promises made under it are clearly a load of b*llocks. But if this is what they don’t do with the obvious things a buyer can see one can only wonder what they haven’t bothered their hole doing with the things that you can’t see!? Anyway, be careful when making a purchase from these guys!
I recently bought a 2019 black Citroen Berlingo van from JC Halliday & Sons, despite living in Sligo and being unable to visit the dealership in person. I had concerns about the high mileage, but the sales representative reassured me that they would not sell a van with such mileage unless they could guarantee the service history. I was told that JC Halliday had carried out all the servicing throughout the van’s life. After being promised a 12-month warranty, I paid a deposit over the phone and arranged to collect the van, as they do not offer delivery. Before collecting, I requested copies of the warranty and service history several times, but each time I was given vague excuses as to why I couldn’t receive them. When I arrived in Eglinton with my wife to pick up the van, I asked again for the warranty and service history. I was told there was a “glitch” in the system and that the warranty would be sent later that day. As for the service history, I was told I could only get details from when JC Halliday received the van due to GDPR restrictions, which only covered recent repairs and servicing. Although frustrated, I proceeded with the purchase since I had already traveled from Sligo. Later that day, the sales rep informed me that due to the high mileage, the warranty would be reduced to six months instead of the promised 12 months. They offered a £100 refund as a gesture of goodwill, which I immediately rejected, insisting they honor the original 12-month warranty. I also requested a service history with personal data removed, but the history I received only covered the last 30,000 miles, despite the vehicle having over 140,000 miles in total. I was told the first owner had handled the servicing themselves. Eventually, I received a message saying they could provide the 12-month warranty, so I proceeded with the VRT inspection to tax and re-register the van. After paying the VRT fee of €214 and scheduling the CVRT inspection, things took a turn. Six days after purchasing the van, while driving to Galway, the dashboard lit up with warning lights. I contacted JC Halliday and sent photos of the issue. They gave me two options: call a VAT-registered garage covered by the warranty for repairs or have them collect the van for repairs. I rejected both options and demanded a full refund, as the van was unfit for its intended purpose. The owner of JC Halliday got involved and insisted that I return the van to their dealership in Eglinton to receive a refund. I pointed out that, under the Consumer Rights Act, they were responsible for collecting the van since it was unsafe to drive. After some back-and-forth, the owner agreed to arrange a pickup, which, in hindsight, turned out to be the best option. Since then, I’ve reached out multiple times requesting reimbursement for the expenses I incurred (VRT, insurance cancellation fees, and currency exchange fees), but I have yet to receive a response. Based on my experience, I strongly caution potential buyers to be wary of JC Halliday & Sons and their promises. I regret trusting them with this purchase.

Wouldn't do business with these cowboys. Both Jamie Stratton and Damien O'Kane are cowardly liars who messed me about for over a month when I was trying to buy a used Peugeot 508 [AYZ 8240]. The car ended up being riddled with issues and faults which kept delaying the handover. In the end I walked away from the sale. Good luck to anyone buying that particular car, or anyone doing any business with these clowns. Lexy is clearly running a circus in Bushmills these days. AVOID!
Seen car on two wet days on told the car 508 witch according to garage had never been hit was top condition for few years old ask for car to be mopped for few marks to take out… well collection day came 31/1/24 well I seen a damaged poor repair car worst paint cover up job ever one of the most expensive price cars in Northern Ireland of its kind. Paint even starting to bubble as clips in boot had been removed and not checked dampness stain on passenger chair after being cleaned to sell feel like they have taken the hand big time. Avoid at all cost

Beware when buying a car from JC Halliday, they don't disclose all information about the cars they are selling or and don't provide the correct information, then when queried they try to take you for a fool and deceive you. Buyer beware, there are much better, honest places to buy a used car from.
