I can only question the authenticity of the positive reviews, because the 1 star reviews for this outfit very much sum up everything we experienced after making the mistake of buying a used car from John Kilkenny Cars Broxburn. Having spend £8000 on purchasing the car, it has given nothing but problems, from brakes and discs that were so worn the were condemned by another garage, to the clutch failing, water leaks into the car, engine problems, and more. We have now spend over £2000 on repairs because Kilkenny ignore requests to put things right - apparently they are ‘too busy’ and have no availability to look at it, they promise to return calls and never do, and they fob you off with any excuse they can think of. There are so many reputable garages out there, please do yourself a favour if you’re looking to buy a car, and avoid this shower of crooks like the plague.

I bought a Volvo V60 from John. After 100 miles, the battery still was not re-charged. John paid for a new battery. There were some rattles too, so I took the car to my garage to check the car over: auxiliary fan belt cracked, rear brakes needed replacing, top suspension mounting broken (this had led to a failed MOT before because of “dangerous defect”). John’s advert had said “service” before purchase. After many emails John sent me the requested details of the “service” he had done: oil filter, alloy wheels. The car was 10 years old, 67k. John’s service (no name of garage) would not fulfil manufacturer’s service requirements. The last service document before the sale of the car to John mentioned that timing belt and brakes would need doing/checking. Not cheap. Neither of them featured in John’s service. John pointed to the fresh MOT with regards to brakes. I checked the website and reviews of this MOT garage – just around the corner from Kilkenny’s. John has an advert on their website. I also checked their registration details in Companies House. It did not inspire confidence. I checked Kilkenny’s details on the Companies House website: a peculiar history of starting and dissolving car dealerships. After quite a few emails and my insisting on knowing the details of the garage he would use for fitting a new timing belt, John paid a “good will contribution” (his words). The work was eventually done at my local garage. I am not sure that I appreciate a cavalier attitude to safety – the AA jumps in after something has happened, the warranty cover may/may not cover a fault after it has become apparent and caused damage (doesn’t cover brakes!), his preferred MOT garage missed the brakes... and the broken top suspension mounting which happened to play up a week after purchase (and John happened to have the spare part on hand – he does not run a garage).

We purchased a 2010 Saab 9-5 saloon from John Kilkenny and in fact placed a deposit on the car sight unseen and flew up to collect it. John met us at the airport in our gleaming new car and left us to have a look through the car and its documents. Everything was exactly as described and John is a very straight, fast talking and approachable fellow. Here's where things get exceptional though. They say that you never judge insurance until you make a claim and so it is with dealers. You really find out what they're like when things go wrong, not when they are giving you their smooth sales patter! Unfortunately our car had a couple of issues post sale - a broken seat heater and an issue with the ludicrously expensive glow plugs. I wrote to John and said I didn't think I should have to repair these items at my cost as they were faults at the time of sale and he replied immediately and apologised and told us to get these items repaired at our local Saab specialist and send him the bill. The work was just into 4 figures and true to his word John has just called my wife this morning to say he has paid for the work. It's rare to find such exceptional service nowadays. John is absolutely honest, keen to make sure you are happy with the car and totally professional. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him or his garage to anyone - especially if you are in the market for a nice Saab, and he has some exceptionally nice ones!
Bought my Saab Convertible from John great experience from start to finish, would highly recommend anyone looking for a car to look no further than John Kilkenny cars...thanks again Janis...

Just wait until something goes wrong with the car then you will see what he is really like
Don’t buy anything from this liar. Sells dangerous cars and doesn’t take responsibility for it. Worst mistake Iv made was buying a car from him

Agree completely with Mark. John is untrustworthy and unprofessional. He had the arrogance and idiocy to assume I was ‘drunk’ when I eventually lost my rag after not seeing my faulty car for two months as he ‘spent thousands on trying to fix it’. It’s now been stolen from his yard and there is no sense of care or due diligence whatsoever. Epitome of dodgy.
After seeing a low mileage Volvo at John Kilkenny, we decided to drive from York to Broxburn to purchase the car. So happy we did, they were an absolute pleasure to deal with, the whole process from start to finish was easy and professional. John was brilliant. The car was in fantastic condition and exactly as described, there was no problem with the trade in either, they gave me the price I was hoping for. We thoroughly enjoyed the drive home in our new car. All in all I can’t recommend John Kilkenny Cars. highly enough. It was well worth the journey.
PLEASE do not buy anything from this liar. He is happy to sell potentially dangerous vehicles with no conscience. I'm informed the main leasing companies get the best cars from auction and he buys the dregs. He'll say they're serviced and MOTd and be so nice until you have problems, which you will. Be safe, buy a car elsewhere.

I purchased a car remotely at a premium market price with a not so premium outcome. After a lengthy dispute my advice; Initially great; - Secured MOT in a day (on site testing facility….) - Dropped car off at UK location within a few days - Easy to transfer funds….. - Good communication…….. Outcome: - vehicle was delivered defective (multiple hidden faults) - lies re description / servicing / MOT - warranty was is/worthless. I took the vehicle for a health check with confirmed £THOUSANDS repairs. Warranty (extremely lucky if you can get a hold of them +++phone hours) agreed to cover a £10 fitting. Plus nearly if not every garage stayed well clear of any warranty work. - offers of false help from dealer & more lies - poor communication Advice: - Simply don’t trust this garage - Buy elsewhere - The negative reviews are likely to be true accounts and a reflection of this business - Certainly don’t buy remotely or put any trust in a description that you’d expect to be a truthful, fair and honest . In my opinion, you should expect a decent honest description in general, not to mention from a fellow person going through a worldwide pandemic crisis. But as I know now this obviously doesn’t apply to wee man John and it’s business as usual, yay for him…

Excellent seller. Very easy to deal with. John kept us informed and up to date throughout the process of buying our car. Very pleasant no problems whatsoever. Highly recommended. John has some very nice cars in his inventory and is well worth having a look at his website no matter your price range. I would have no hesitation in buying from John again.
