Previously posted. Took Kilkenny to court and won. Didn't even have the decency to turn up but sent legal representation. Still hasn't paid approx £10,200 owed and mounting. Buyer beware. Its only when you have to look you question who you buy from. Has a history of dissolving companies. Check Companies House/Government Gazette. Public knowledge and in public domain. In the issues resolved I can't add his quote "take me to court I have deep pockets" we did. You didn't turn up!!
John comes across as a very honest & very accommodating used car dealer who seems to have plenty of time & patience in reassuring the customer that they are getting the best deal & the most reliable car possible. I showed serious interest in what turned out to be a seriously overpriced 12 year old volvo estate with 98,000 miles on the clock. The asking price was £6500 & although the car looked immaculate,i later found out there are far better deals around the UK with much younger & more up to date models. In the meantime,i had paid a deposit of £400 (to include the fitting of rear parking sensors by another company) & in part exchange for my Volkswagen Passat (registered in December of 2014) in excellent condition with only 52,000 miles on the clock & a full service history with the latest service & mot just two days old.I was seeking an estate for the purpose of my two black labradors. When i realized my mistake in committing to such an old car at such a high price,i attempted to cancel my order JUST TWO DAYS after committing to buy it. However,John insisted he had already carried out a full service & mot in that time & he had also had the rear sensors fitted by a third party, all of which seems highly unlikely, given the time frame ,especially as he had initially said he would contact me in a week or so when all the work was done. So he refuses to refund me any part of my £400 deposit,... Please do not trust this seemingly very trustworthy used car salesman,...

John Kilkenny Cars from John Kilkenny Cars in response to very dishonest used car dealer
This is a very unfair review and to clarify this is the full story: Mr Crematy arrived at my garage on 02/12/2019 at just before 11am expressing an interest in our XC70 he had seen on autotrader who deem the car to be a 'good price' infact £72 under market value with spec being considered, he was given 3 hours to inspect the car, go over it and test drive it not once but twice, as he had bought a volvo elsewhere a few days prior but decided to cancel it as he felt the garage was being un honest (da ja vue) anyway after all this @ 14;30 he decided he wanted the car and was happy with the deal including his part ex, he decided he wanted to pay additional for parking sensors, so we arranged this for him, the following day the customer decided he did not want us to deliver the car when it was ready (agreed as a good will gesture) and infact he would like to inspect the car again and drive it again before taking it away, so I agreed not a problem, I by that time have had the car moted and is in the workshop being serviced, Wednesday 4/12/19 @ 6am a text comes in wishing to cancel claiming that his girlfriend of 4 years was going to split up with him if he bought an older car, 09;32 (same day) a text comes in: John my issues relationship obviously are not your problem, I'm sorry for the hassle, ill have another drive & a good check of the car when its ready & if all is as it should be then ill do the deal, so please take it off the market, thanks Georges, so we do this, 11:33 (same day) text message: I'm sorry john, my girlfriend of four years is threatening to end it, so FINAL MESSAGE, please keep the car7 my money (deposit) too, good luck in selling it, thanks for your good customer service, georges, then the abuse started out of the blue!! so in conclusion 2 days wasted car off sale, money, time and effort wasted but its all our fault, sorry but I think on this occasion we did our best, unfortunately I cant upload the text conversation however I will keep it incase another false review pops up elsewhere, we pride ourselves in excellent customer care and endeavour to keep everyone happy however sometimes no matter what this is not always possible. Kind regards John Kilkenny Cars.
Purchased Mercedes Benz B Class from John. Closed on a Sunday but happily agreed to meet me to allow test drive, after putting deposit down I couldn't collect for a week so John kindly sent out his colleague to collect me which was above my expectation. Car checked over, good to go, 6mth warranty to take to garage of my choice gives me confidence John's not selling me a banger, alot of places insist you use their 'guys' and the fact I got AA membership the day before collection so it would kick in before I left garage was also a great service. Love my new car and feel I got a top spec 2nd hand car for a superb price (I done my homework). Great dealing with John, no hard sell, very informative but not pushy, which was refreshing after spending the day at other showrooms where they would ask their cheesy manager to try work their magic and telling me how great a car it is but when I asked questions on the actual cars the response would be 'I'm not sure, we have so many cars but put a deposit down or you'll miss out' if you're like me and hate all that dated sexist nonsense because you're female and they think you'll fall for all that go speak to John, he'll keep you right. John also told me how to market my old car, how much to sell it for because I would get double amount selling privately, sold my car within 2 days going on his advise so a really helpful guy all round and great customer service by calling me a few days later to ask if I was happy with purchase and if any issues, can't ask for much better service.
Bought a Honda Civic type R GT 2008 from John 2 weeks ago, he let me test drive the car alone which I did and everything seemed ok mechanically. However when I got home I tried to fold the electric mirrors and one did not work, the driver door speaker was not working which I found on the way home to Inverness and the plastic of the handle fell off with the silicone still wet. I emailed him he called straight back and agreed to send the mirror part required to fix the motor and replacement used speaker which now works! With being so far it was either go to him or he send the parts which I was happy with. Shame about the plastic cover on the door handle which he admitted came off during machine polishing. I glued that back on myself and now all little issues sorted. There is a current noise with the clutch release bearing only when cold which Honda have said it fine to leave just now but may fail in near future, also rust on inside of passenger door which hopefully covered under 12 year Honda warranty. I would have given 5 stars as these issues are easily sorted before purchasing but reduced to 3. Would I buy again?? Possibly but partly my own fault for not checking everything thourogly. He did however put brand new MOT and service on the car for me so will leave 4 deserved stars. Be sure to check everything when buying he did not pressure me into anything I was just keen. He was honest but if he took more notice in the smaller things as well could easily be 5 stars

Our old car was written off so we were in a hurry as we had a trip down south planned, we bought a Volvo estate from john which suited our daily life style, the car was quickly turned around which suited us, it was moted, serviced and was gleaming when we collected it, there was also a bunch of flowers in the car for my wife which was a nice touch, 10 out of 10.

Caveat Emptor - Buyer Beware. John Kilkenny Motors,Broxburn Consumer Rights Act 2015 V “Little Man with Big Pockets” We have had to enlist the services of a solicitor to have our car a Volvo XC90 returned to John Kilkenny Motors, Broxburn. This has been done in line with the Consumer Rights Act 2015. It has also been done after the offer of arbitration was not taken up by Kilkenny. We purchased the car in November and on the day we drove it away from the dealers it showed an ABS fault. The car went into limp mode within miles of Broxburn. Cruise control engaged and disengaged whenever it felt like it and the engine remained in limp mode. Despite diagnostic work undertaken and several sensors changed the issue remained and in fact got worse. Driving the car was dangerous. For the next two months we worked with Kilkenny to attempt to have the car fit for purpose, safe and reliable. During this time he had the car back in his garage for over forty yes forty days. One might argue that this was done to allow the thirty day Consumer Rights Act 2015 “right to return and refund” to run its course. That is what Kilkenny was clearly hoping for. What he didn’t legislate for is that the law supports consumers who have identified any issue on day one, which we did. So what happened during those forty plus days? Allegedly new bits and bobs fitted to the car. Now I’m not a mechanic but two separate mechanics have indicated that the “new” items might not be new. But that’s okay as I didn’t pay for the attempted repairs. Kilkenny has repeatedly treated our solicitor with distain and spoke like he was a school bully indicating that he would not offer a refund and that he has “big pockets”. Not a particularly professional stance but one that is more comical and laughable. A little man with big pockets. Even when challenged about why he felt it necessary to attempt to claim against the cars warranty(AA) stating that the car was with him at his garage when in fact it was with us. Maybe he was just after money to fill his big pockets?Alleged attempted fraud? To support what I have written above but without boring everyone with the minutae of our numerous messages and phone calls(or as I like to call it-evidence) I have attached a simple guide for prospective buyers to bear in mind. Especially if you buy from a garage like Kilkennys that is happy to take your money but will sharply absolve themselves of any responsibility. As required by law the car has been returned to the little man who humourously has removed it from his forecourt and states that he will return the keys to us. Needless to say we will let court action run its course. He has hidden from his obligations as a dealer and from my solicitor.Lets see if he hides from the courts and their bailiffs. I have taken this step to show that despite due diligence and research anyone can be treated without courtesy or respect or honesty when money is the motivating factor. It may well have been easier of he just wore adult trousers in an adult world with normal size pockets.

I approached the garage not 100% sure what I was looking through, John gave me options and went through the pros and cons to each vehicle, eventually I picked one and managed to pick it up a few days later with a warranty as well!! amazing value for a luxury vehicle! would recommend john kilkenny cars to anyone. Will be back when wife car is due for upgrade! thanks again.
