My daughter bought a Jeep Renegade car from Alison Barton. On the 16th of march 2024. Less than 30 days later the cars engine developed a fault. It had an AA warranty, so she phoned the AA and took the car to the garage. Which told her the engine had numerous faults and was not fit for purpose. So my daughter phoned Alison and has been basically told very rudely that the garage is a liar and it's not her problem, take it to a Jeep dealership. Which the AA warranty won't pay for. She should accept the car is broken and refund. But NO she is avoiding the refund or any liability at all. We shall be approaching her again today 12/04/24 and hopefully she will be more amicable in dealing with us. I will leave another review later after our conversation.

Paul turnbull in response to Jeep renegade not fit for purpose
At the moment, we are waiting for a response. But it is looking good. Have asked for a loaner car why she gets it sorted. I think my daughter handled the first call badly. And after the second call it seems to have been agreed that the the car will be returned and fixed by her garage. And Alison will loan a car. This is very nice and amicable, professional response...... But none of this is as yet set in stone.
Paul turnbull in response to Jeep renegade not fit for purpose
All is good, as I said the initial conversation was mishandled by daughter. And Alison has come up trumps for her. She has gone above and beyond what I expected. Brilliant service all round.
Take a breath… please consider all the other one star reviews. I believe they are true as well as our own story. The lady owner has a ‘gift’ it seems for her version of events… From our experience the owners of Leisure Shop are: A: dishonest B: liars C: stingy and cheap They brought our car for a good price via Carwow. In time they came to collect it and seemed amiable and friendly. We now feel this Essex ‘bumpkin’ character was a bit of a guise… The next day we registered the car over to them (as it was late evening when our business had concluded and kids need bed etc) In hindsight this was naive… please read on. A few weeks later we received a Dart charge for their trip with our old car back to their Essex pile. We then tried to email, phone & text to explain what had happened. They surely knew it could not go through the tunnel for free?? Despite WhatsApps helpful blue ticks telling us she read our messages we received no reply. When the fine increased we tried again from a different number. She answered and said she would get it all sorted… nothing. So despite turning a healthy profit on our car, we saw it on their website come and go again, they did not have the honesty to pay the fine they incurred. I would be interested to see how she can twist our version of events to fit her narrative if she deigns to reply to this review. I would suggest this kind of behaviour goes beyond what happened to us and thus can only conclude they are not to be dealt with. Deceit and dishonesty come easily to them so buying a car from them would be a minefield. Miserly and without scruples…best to be avoided.

Everything but a professional car seller… I’m from France and bought a BMW M3 E46 convertible at Leisure Shop Ltd, Chelmsford in January 2021. Firstly, it took 10 days, two emails via “pistonheads”, one email via their own website, many whatsapp messages (marked as read), and two phone calls with voice messages left until Mrs Barton decided to answer me (Maybe because I’m French?) In her email, she claimed “the car has no damage at all and is an excellent example of a modern collectable appreciating classic.” As I was sceptical about her sincerity, I asked a reputable professional inspector (Gocarz Import) to see the car and write me a report. The inspection showed scratches on the front and rear bumper, a dent on a front wing, corrosion around the mirrors, wheel varnish peeled, rear bumper misaligned with the body, interior trim fasteners broken, sat nav screen worn... The Cabrio roof wasn’t working (the seller apparently discovered this with the inspector) and was covered with mould, mist on all the windows, inside the beams etc... and the battery was weak but the car did start. Don’t you think a professional car seller should have checked the car the day before the visit, charged the battery, removed the mist with ventilation, and done a little road test to remove the rust on the brake discs? The asking price was very high compared to the market (21950gbp), even if it was low mileage, so logically you would prepare the car the best you can if you want to seduce the customer. Obviously, at Leisure Shop Ltd, they did nothing to show off the car in its best light, and the inspector was very surprised. Aside from all of these things, the car was correct, and we placed an adequate offer by email as the cabrio roof wasn’t working, body was damaged, front tyres and brake discs were seriously worn, no hard top coming with it etc... Of course, a 17 year's old car can't be new, but a professional has to be honest with the condition... No answer from Leisure shop. We had to call them back many days later, managed to come to an agreement (buying the car as seen) and when we asked for the bank details, strangely we received them 5mins afterwards. In contrast, it took them 15 days to give me a receipt of deposit. (Indeed they never even checked if the deposit had arrived, what professional behaviour!) Finally we paid the balance, and I asked for the wind deflector (Mrs Barton told me in her first email it had one), She told me the car hasn’t got one, never apologised and advised me to buy one on Ebay, and that if I wasn’t happy we could cancel the sale! As it was complicated with the brexit procedure, the car stayed one month at Leisure shop, they offered to park the car in one of their garages only if we accepted to pay an extra, miserly... When I picked up the car, obviously it hasn't been cleaned ( I found parking tickets and stuffs from previous owner inside the central armrest, grey leather and plastics were dirty, mold at the rear, on plastics and windows, battery very weak etc... A real professional would have cleaned the car and done a final check to be sure nothing was left inside, even if it was sold "as seen", we are talking about almost 20000 gbp! To summarize my experience with Leisure Shop Ltd, Chelmsford : ● They don’t care about their business and their customers in the slightest. ● Dishonest, the lie about the condition of the car and equipment ● Answer whenever they fancy ● Scorn their customers ● Unprofessional behaviour Hope my review will help future customers to avoid this seller. I’m also a professional motorbikes and cars seller in France, so I know what I’m talking about, and fortunately the bad car sellers like Leisure Shop Ltd are a minority. Maxime COISNE

After a long trip home after buying a car it breaks down. I was left stranded with kids on hard shoulder. All calls ignored by Lesiure Shop in Chelmsford. Devastated.
Heather tarrant from Leisure Shop Ltd in response to Terrible service. Terrible people.
I actually served this customer with another colleague. They insisted on turning up any 8.00 in the evening and pressured us into letting them take the vehicle which they were made aware needed a service and Egr valve replaced due to engine management light being on. They were fully aware that I did not want to let the vehicle go until it was in a fit state to be sold as it was booked into the mechanics for these works to be carried out. They were desperate for the vehicle for the next day. They became abusive and slightly threatening, they were large men and we felt intimidated and frightened by their aggressive behaviour so let the vehicle go. They then came banging on the door about 30 minutes later saying it was not running correctly and engine management light was on demanding their payment back. This was handed back immediately. Again they were very intimidating and their behaviour was threatening. We were unable to assist re taxation as they had details with dvla we were not privy to. All in all one of the most unpleasant and frightening experiences to date.
Alison Barton from Leisure Shop Ltd in response to Terrible service. Terrible people.
Didn’t sell a vehicle to Gerard b in 2019 2018 2017. A vehicle was sold to someone with a similar name in October 2016 It was delivered to the customers address at his request and signed for by his mother as he was not in. Impossible for it to break down at the time as he never drove it so how it ended up in a lay-by with his children in 2019 we do not know. Total fabrication.
I spoke to the owner a few times in the lead up to my appointment with her. I travelled for two hours to view a car and when I arrived at the appointed time she was not there and I was informed by a bloke shovelling manure out of the back of tractor trailer that she would be gone for more than an hour. After three phone calls and a text message I finally contacted Alison who informed me that salesman could have helped me as if it was my fault. I went back to the farmyard which she runs her business from and discovered that salesman was the shoveler in the back of the trailer, he came out of the farmhouse and yelled "be with you in a minute" before going back inside. I stood around in the cold with large chained up dogs barking and snarling at me for around ten minutes before Colin reappeared. Rather than an apology for the original confusion or for keeping me waiting, he made it clear that he was showing me the car with reluctance and then berated me that any confusion was my fault for not identifying myself correctly. Not the customer service that I was expecting, I don't know if their cars are any good as I left without seeing any as it was obvious that this was not a professional outfit. I sent a text to the owner complaining and have so far heard nothing back from her. All that I can think is that she is not serious about her business.

Alison Barton from Leisure Shop Ltd in response to Appalling Service
It’s a shame mark didn’t mention that we travelled 2hours a couple of days later with the vehicle to his address so he could test drive it to make up for his original disappointment. He also omitted to say he wasn’t even at that address at the time arranged and that we waited for him to return and then drive the vehicle. No pleasing some people
Alison Barton from Leisure Shop Ltd in response to Appalling Service
It is a shame that Mark has stretched the truth to a high degree and not updated on his original comments. I contacted him via telephone as soon as I was aware of his displeasure to apologise for any inconvenience caused, although the racehorse trainer was never rude and needed to leave him briefly to get the keys to the vehicle. Moving forward I rang him and agreed to take the car to his address over two hours drive away so he could view and test drive it at his own convenience. He kept us waiting in the cold at the wrong address for over an hour next to a building site We waited and after he eventually redirected us to the correct address he drove and examined the vehicle. To say he never got the opportunity to test drive the m3 is totally untrue. Not much more you can do in this situation. We were helpful polite and pleasant throughout and he drove and inspected the car
We have just bought a car from Leisure Car Shop, we travelled from Portsmouth to get it and found that Alison and Heather were very helpful the car is great and everything they said they would do they did. We were made very welcome and they even picked us up from the station! Highly recommended. Thank you very much. Alan and a very pleased Jenny.

Leisure Shop Ltd in Chelmsford are a very decent used car dealership. The car I bought from here really did fit the bill and it hasn't had a single fault since buying it back in May this year. No complaints what so ever to report so I would recommend them to family and friends.
