Bad experience of buying new car

Warning! Don’t buy from Listers Volkwagen in Nuneaton unless you want to spend a four figure sum fixing problems within less than a year of buying a car from them. We decided to buy a used Volkswagen from Listers because of their good reviews. We thought we’ll pay abit more for the reassurance of an approved Volkswagen dealer. How wrong we were. The alarm bell rang when we went to pick up the car and found the damage on the body work was not fixed as the sales guy promised. He tried to persuade us that the work had been done. He must think we were blind! It was only when we refused to sign i.e. pay; he relented and agreed to repair the damaged body work which was a condition for us to buy the car in the first place. The other week, I took the car to have an annual service at the autocentre that service the fleet of the company I work. My boss has been using the autocentre to service his fleet for a number of years and found them reliable. I was so shocked when the autocentre gave me a quote for over £1000 for works required on the car, some of which they said were serious like the “excessively corroded” brake discs and the “excessively worn” lower suspension wishbone ram bushes. It never occurred to me that I would have to pay over £1000 to fix problems for a car that I have only had for 10 months. I complained to VW UK and Listers. VW basically said it’s up to Listers and Listers initially tried to fob us off and said the car met “Volkswagen’s standards” at the point of sale. Eventually, they said they would give us a discounted rate for the work which works out at about £8 cheaper than the autocentre’s quote. What a joke!! Don’t buy from Listers and don’t believe so call Volkswagen guarantee.

Had my Touareg serviced there this week because I had a service plan - No problem with the service at all However they did pick up that the seal on my intercooler pipe required replacing at a cost of just under £180 asked what their cost /hour labour was £105 and they quoted 1.5 hours to do the job. well at that price I declined. I purchased the seal at a cost of £8.82 and from start to finish including removing and replacing the under tray it took me 20 minutes to fit. How can a garage justify these costs?

This is the second car I have bought from Listers Nuneaton. I do not enjoy the experience of going into dealerships and do not look forward to the process of sourcing a new car. So, many congratulations to the staff at Listers Nuneaton for making the process pleasant and civilised. I worked with Laura and Ashley and they made it clear they wanted my business and offered a deal that made me glad to trade. They communicated well throughout and overall I rate them well ahead of any other car dealers I've approached and would be pleased to buy my next car from them too.
