I bought a car last year and took an extended warranty. I’ve now got multiple issues with the car that they claim are not covered by the warranty. I’ve not received any official diagnostic report so I have no idea if what they’ve told me is correct regarding the faults. This is now in the hands of Trading Standards. Be warned do not buy a vehicle from these people. They actually told me to “come and collect your car” then abruptly hung up. Disgraceful service

Mark Breen from Mcdougal & Breen in response to Awful after service

It is a shame we can’t leave you a review! The warranty company (not us) rejected your claim as it was for wear and tear items. We then offered to do the work at trade cost for you but you then decided to threaten us. You were told we wouldn’t go out of our way to help you if you were going to continue with your threats. You insisted you were going to “slate us online” and “make sure nobody else buys a car from us” no matter what we did so we asked you to just collect your car. In future is you want someone’s help I would suggest you treat them with a bit more respect and have some manners when speaking to them.

I do not recommend this garage. I went to collect my recently purchased car but as soon as I began to accelerate to 50 on the way home, it started to shudder and vibrate. Also one of the brake lights didn't work. Turned around to drive back to the garage. They identified the problem and attempted to fix it but after returning to collect it after a few hours, it was no different. They had also realised that there was an issue with the boot which wasn't attached correctly. They attempted to fix it once again and I went over to collect it the following day. Drove it away but experienced exactly the same issue, returned it after five minutes and the garage agreed that it wasn't fixed. They offered to have yet another look at it as well as try to identify a whining noise it had begun to make, at which point I asked for my money back. Mechanic was full of apologies but have to say I was not impressed with sales department at all. One salesman said he didn't have a crystal ball to see that there might be problems with the cars they sell (even though they had serviced and put the car through its mot.) Obviously not trustworthy at all. Very disappointed.

It is unfortunate that you had an issue with your car but the point you are missing here is that you didn't buy a new car you bought a 10 year old car. With a car we can only carry out so many checks on items that are visible as well as our road tests being limited to around 5 miles. We are an AA accredited dealer and also a member of the Good Garage Scheme, WE DO THINGS RIGHT. It is sometimes the case that the new owner is more likely to flush out a fault that is not visible once they start using the vehicle. This is where the "crystal ball" anecdote came from and in no way was it used in a derogatory way as you have suggested. As soon as you showed your dissatisfaction with the workshop being unable to identify the fault immediately whilst under the pressure of you waiting/complaining it was the sales department who made the call to refund your money. Hopefully you will have a little more patience and understanding with whoever you buy a car from next. We don't build them, they aren't new and 9/10 when there is a fault it is a fault that we have inherited from a customer who part exchanged the vehicle and hid it from us, but apparently we are the bad people though?

Julie F in response to Very unhappy customer

I appreciate you responding to my email but I don’t think it unreasonable to expect even a 10 year old car to actually get me home after purchase. Plus the fact that there were more faults being discovered which you seemed unable to fix. I was perfectly pleasant to the lovely mechanic who tried his very best to help and up until it was due to be fixed the third time, I was also respectful to your salesman. I really didn’t appreciate the flippant comment about the crystal ball, I have to say. Myself and my family have purchased many second hand cars over the years and this has never happened before that we couldn’t even drive them home. I have since purchased another car (exactly same age and model) and I really felt it had been thoroughly serviced and driven on roads which could demonstrate the car’s performance. It obviously isn’t enough to just test drive at 30. I do thank you for refunding my payment immediately however.

You chose to praise a technician who had let you down but berate a salesman who tried in some way to deflect your anger? As stated we have no idea if parts on a USED car are close to failure as you can’t see what is going on inside them. The cars are inspected and taken on relatively short road tests. Any hidden faults are more likely to occur once on the road being driven more by the new owner. This is where you learn if you have bought from a good garage or not. If you are told to go away you have made a mistake - if the garage offers to drop everything to help you then you have chosen correctly. A young inexperienced technician was the only person available at the time but he tried his best to help you. You made the whole situation very high pressure and made sure he knew he had little to no time available to get this sorted. Under pressure he failed to fix the issue there and then to which you responded with more anger and more pressure. From the unreasonable behaviour I saw it was a very easy decision to make to no longer have you as our customer and to refund your money.

Some additives in motor oil are more susceptible to darkening in the presence of heat than others. In addition, normal oxidation can darken oil, too. Oxidation occurs when oxygen molecules interact with oil molecules and cause chemical breakdown, just like how oxygen causes a cut apple to brown or iron to rust In 1 start of your car the oil will go black mixing with old oil still present in the system, Seems a bit of a harsh uneducated review of a garage this one. Perhaps have a look a the facts before making what can only be called stupid comments.

My car was booked in with Mcdougal & Breen for Friday 18th May. When I got there they tried to say it was booked in for two days prior. It wasn't. The service manager then admitted they were short staffed and had two big jobs on the go. If they had rang me I would have sorted something else. I didn't appreciate being lied to.

Recently bought a leon and thought that a review about how happy with my car is the least this very good dealership deserve. I am over the moon with the service received from Chris the sale chap. He was fantastic and spent 2 hours with us on the Saturday i bought it. He showed me all different makes and models until I settled on the Leon his patience and passion for customer service was clear to see. Highly recommended and think people should take more time out to shout about there great experiences when they find a service such as I had.

I purchased a Renault Clio from here in February. It was clean and in good shape and the dealers were helpful during the process of the sale but not so much afterwards, I had an issue with one of the drop links. The dealer said there was only one but another garage has stated that there are a few more that need replacing. I wouldn't recommend this dealership.

If you ask a workshop to find faults with a car you can rest assured that they will seeing as that is how they make a living. What is your complaint with us? What did we do wrong here?
