The car was sold to me with a botched repair to a sump oil leak which cost £400 to repair. I could not say if this was done at this dealer or previously but I do strongly believe it was known about by this dealer. Although I notified Mike within his "I'll sort anything within 30 days" period, he tried to blind me with unrelated technical terms. Then said oil leaks were common on high mileage cars. Then refused to accept liability for the fault or repair bill. This is an extract from his email: "As I said before the difficulty for you and me is the Consumer Rights Act allows for things like oil leaks, bearing in mind the mileage of the car. So it's not something I have to resolve normally". He did however offer me the poultry sum of £100 as a "gesture of good will" which I refused. Fortunately I had the presence of mind to pay the deposit for the car on my credit card. I reported the matter to Barclaycard and after a thorough investigation they refunded me the full amount of the repairs. So my advice to potential buyers would be If you must buy a car here, use your credit card. So what started out as a pleasant experience with a very helpful and reassuring dealer soon became one of life's things you'd rather forget. I am not a habitual review writer but if I do, I only deal in facts and never elaborated emotional responses. I hope this review will be helpful and provide valuable customer feedback to Mike.

Michael Fairbanks from Mike Fairbanks Car Sales in response to Not Quite The Paragon He Makes Out To Be
Hi Chris I appreciate your review. It can always be tricky when a customer buys a car and then doesn't like the idea of having to spend on it after a certain period of time. I did contribute to a repair within your first 30 days which you were happy with. But the oil leak situation was a tricky one as you had bought a car with 143,000 miles on it and whilst I do my job right, not every car is going to be free of faults or in new condition. We didn't do the bodged repair on the sump that you said it had. I would have fixed it correctly if it was an issue at the time I had it in the garage, so it obviously wasn't leaking when I had it nor within the first 5 weeks of your ownership. I did offer a contribution towards the cost as well which you didn't respond to or accept. And yes, the law clearly states that you have to expect oil leaks on cars that are older with higher mileage. This doesn't mean they're bad or broken or that the dealer is doing something wrong. Anyway, thanks for the review and I'm sorry you are not happy. I have been selling cars over 25 years and sometimes you can't always get it right or please everyone.
I'm really happy with my new car . I had that moment on my way home from picking the car up where a little smile came over my face as I realised I'd made a good decision and really love my new Car. Thanks Mike. Would recommend Mike Fairbanks Car Sales in a heartbeat.

Very happy with my purchase from Mike Fairbanks Car Sales. I appreciated the honesty as to any faults Mike knew of on various makes and models even the car I bought from him. His after sales is good too - helped me with a few minor issues. I'd buy from him again.

I like getting my cars from Mike as he's straight with how they are and tells me about any faults they have. Found him helpful in sorting out any issues I have post sale too.

Just purchased a car from Mike Fairbanks Car Sales, the whole process was a dream, very honest and accommodating was Mike and nothing too much trouble , car was much better than expected. Would not hesitate to recommend this guy to anybody ... it’s a 10 from Glen
I recently dealt with Mike Fairbanks Car Sales over the purchase of a Citroen C5+Satnav, I can honestly say I have never dealt with a car trader as nice as Mike, when you go to view one of his cars he invites you into his home and asks if you would like tea or coffee before you even look at the car, he points out the little things that most dealers would not like the aircon works but not brilliant (just a top up required really) he points out any faults on the car in detail which makes him honest and it's up to you whether or not to purchase, certainly no pressure sales, I would highly recommend Mike to all my friends and family, all his cars are well priced and the word I'm looking for is in his surname FAIR!!
