This is the second car I’ve purchased from Phil and the team. Always great crack when down, car was sitting absolutely gleaming, couldn’t be happier!
We bought the car on 30/06/2020... First problem occured on the drive home from Belfast to Derry ..there was a crunching noise when we did a full right turn .. We called Stephen who sold us the car and told him if the problem and car was booked in to be sorted... Less than a week later the parking brake started to play up and it came up on dash board that it was faulty ..again we called Stephen to report ...once again the car was booked in to be sorted .... When hubby picked up the car we were told problem was sorted and that we were driving the car wrong and we confused the handbrake by using it. Silly us didn't realize the handbrake button was just for show.! ...we picked the car up on Monday 24 July and less than 5 days later parking brake fault occurred again ... We called Stephen and he told us he would again book in car and that I could still drive the car .. I am a registered Childcare provider caring for 6 children ..I did not feel it was safe to use to car for my job which was the reason I bought it plus the warranty quoted not to drive the car if there was a fault ..I bought the car for work purposes I wanted a realible 7 seater with low mileage ..the car was booked in again mean while another warning light came on telling me the abs braking system was faulty and the anti slip light keeping coming on and going off ... We were told it was parking motor and then it wasn't, then told it was the switch .. we again were told the car was fixed ... When hubby picked up car he was told not to use the parking brake manually at all as it wasn't a car that you should use with a manual brake we should just use the automatic brake which mean I had to turn off car if I wanted to apply brake ... We told them we weren't happy with this as why was there a button there if we couldn't use and Philip (owner) agreed we should be able to use it .. the handbook talked about how to apply the manual hand brake yet we were being told not to use ... Philip told us he would order a manual switch and sort for us to get fixed in Derry as trips up to Belfast weekly and time off work for hubby was taking its toll on us emotionally and financially .I was feeling very stressed out with the car and worrying how I would be able to do my job without a car as children are doing back to school and I needed my car for school pickups ... The switch Philip ordered arrived on Saturday 22 august by post and we were set to get it booked in with someone he recommended in Derry but when I started the car on Monday 24th to take a child to school ...it said that the abs breaking system was faulty the gearbox is faulty and the parking brake is faulty then the gears wouldn't change automatically ... I have had this car around 8 weeks ... I have not drove it for 1 full week without faults and warning lights coming up .. Most of the miles I have done in this car have been up and down to Belfast to let Philip get the car fixed for us which has been unsuccessful ... I do not feel safe in this car at all and I can't drive a faulty car for work I am responsible for the health and safety of the children I mind they aren't safe in a faulty car with braking systems failing ... We have requested to return this car for a full refund as we believe we have given Philip alot of chances to sort out the car and if anything it's getting worst the fault appeared within the first 30 days of owning this car so my law we are entitled to refund ... We have been passed between Stephen and Philip each one quoting the other one is responsible for sorting us out and refunding our money The car has been drove to Belfast on Monday 24 august and left with Stephen and we have requested the rejecting of this car we have done this throught the web site and through whatsapp ... Im not sure how long this will take but after dealing with this company for the last 7/8 weeks I know they will drag this out and not do the honourable thing and refund me my money . I have read other reviews and it seems I'm not alone on being sold a faulty car by them.. Honestly I would advise people to shop else where ..I've been in contact with other customers who have also had a nightmare ... Philip mc Garrity cars talk about 50 years in the car dealer business and offering first class service ..but that definitely is not the case..

Honestly despicable, I didn’t even get home in my “new” car and the car was rough idling, I have now fixed all the faults at a reputable local Mexhanic and he said the car couldn’t have been serviced in a very long time, yet Stephen assured me on purchase (7 months ago) the car had just been serviced and a new timing chain fitted. Honestly can only compare them To Harry Woowood, look out for the gorilla glue, he is been dealing dodgy motors for 50 yrs! Shifty boys! I didn’t even get a response from them when I notified them of the problems. Stay well clear!!! Only sorry I didn’t read these reviews before I handed over my cash.

1st of Sept 2020 We have been informed car is fixed .. yet again ... We have asked for written confirmation of this yet no response ... So car is still in Belfast in their yard and I am car less in Derry If this car was indeed was fixed and he had confident in what he sells he would have no bother in standing over his cars
Belfast’s Harry Woodworm ... Bought a french lump of scrap from this con artist back in January 2020, didn’t get it 15 miles down the road until the faults began, not to mention the car has needed oil twice in the 7 months that I’ve been unlucky enough to own it, and now I’ve just been told the timing chain needs replaced and the engine needs work... I handed over £4200 for that heap and it hasn’t went right from the second I drove it off the fake forecourt, believe the reviews... absolute appalling excuse for a car dealership.

How are they getting away with this constantly selling faulty cars
Jacinta in response to Cowboys
They should be reported to UsedCars NI they shouldn’t be allowed to advertise on these websites
I have read the reviews for Philip Mcgarrity Cars on here & can honestly say I'm baffled, as I do not find the bulk of them representative of my lengthy customer experience with the owner of the company himself. Since January 1994 I have bought 4 cars from Philip & I can honestly say that I have never had a problem with any of them. Two were brand new & two were used, in fact my most recent purchase of a used CRV was only made because my Stream, owned from brand new, finally died at 15.5yrs, but only because a local auto parts shop sold me the wrong alternator for her, otherwise, she would've been still going strong. I trust Philip so much that I also brought my son to buy his first car from PMC, and his second & third, what with young men being as they are, wanting to try different motors. I have never had any complaints about his customer service or work done on any of the cars either, he has always been more than courteous and all work has been done to my satisfaction in a timely manner as well as at a reasonable cost, in fact, over the years, he has bent over backwards to help me out of a few tight spots. I always have & always will thoroughly recommend PMC to both family & friends.

Do not go near Philip McGarrity Cars if u want to drive your car out of their yard again! Totally shocking excuse for mechanics!!!!
Stephen from Philip McGarrity Cars in response to Con artists
You didn't buy a car, you came to our workshop for retail work. You took your golf to us for diagnostics, we diagnosed faulty injectors. You didn't want to spend the money on them so the cat left the same way it came in..... pretty simple if you ask me. You cant have anything done for nothing.

Cowboys .. definitely the truth
Please do yourself a favour and give Phillip McGaritty a wide berth! Started off well, viewed a 2010 Renault Megane and took a test drive, all seemed good. Advertised as 1 previous owner and 6 month warranty. Big question was should we risk it. Asked for service history and MOT certs, only most recent MOT was provided but knew it had failed shortly before and was advised it was a flat battery but didn’t have the cert - go figure! Turned out to have 3 previous owners and they would only give us 3 mth warranty. Asked about timing belt, was told there’s 97k miles on her it must have been done before now but would get mechanic to verify next day. Getting a bit uneasy by this point so offered a refundable holding deposit of 200 and we would return with our own mechanic to check. No problem they said, all our cars are available for inspection at any time. Printed off a receipt which included the statement ”I agree to purchase the said vehicle” which I queried. Was told oh we are out of the usual NCR receipts but don’t worry about that you’ll get a full refund if you don’t buy I’m just using this so that you have some form of receipt. Short of it is, the car had at least 3 panels re-sprayed and there was oil (lots of it) in water. Head gasket had signs of repair. Asked for return of holding deposit as we could no longer purchase the vehicle given the state of the engine and things got nasty, said they dont allow mechanics on site and we would only get 50% back as he could have sold car 3 times over. After some persuasion we eventually got a full refund transferred into bank by receptionist, thank goodness. There was absolutely no need for this to turn sour but given the unjustified nasty behaviour of the owner Phil McGarrity I would urge caution and take your own mechanic along if you visit this business. I feel for the unsuspecting person that actually purchases the car we declined in the end. The above is an accurate and true account of events between 17th & 19th September 2019.

Your lucky ..I'm going through a nightmare with them
I could write a lot about my experience with Phillip McGarrity Cars. Sufficient to say I collected a car on the 15th February and eventually returned the car through the rejection process on the 20th June. The car had been back to them 6 times during that period and was off the road for 2 months while Phillip did everything possible to slow the rejection process down. The reason for the rejection was that the engine management light kept coming on. Various sensors were changed without any real attempts to diagnose the problem. The final straw came when I requested the mileage history recorded at MOT. I collected the car with 93k on the clock but the mileage recorded at MOT that morning was over 100k. The MOT certificate provided when I collected the car belonged to another vehicle. Trading Standards are now in receipt of all the information relating to this car and have opened a file to investigate this. Infornation has also passed on to the RAC since they are also an "approved dealer". I would not recommend this company to anyone.

Really enjoyed my experience of purchasing a vehicle here. My sister and my brother also purchased from philip and stephen, would never look anywhere else :)
Philip McGarity Cars is the worst place to get a car from as car was unroad worthy. Does that refresh ur memory of car we got from u, Pic off miles day u got car back so ur talking shit about miles put on car while if u want to dispute it i have pics of everything from miles on car sitting before we took car plus u will find u had car longer than what we had it for due to the car needing things done to it. See its easy to turn off engine management light n also the service light before inspector got looking at the car plus fack it says on his report that he couldnt inspect the car fully due to there being no ramp on site to inspect under the car where most of problems were. I have all the pics on computer etc if ud like me to share them with everyone id be more than happy to as just remember too 3 reports were done on this car n 2 of which were done on our side from finance company made ur report void due to both our reports coming back the same n with much more on 3rd report done by a proper good garage scheme assessment. So ur hands were tied n for this u had no option but to take car back so again Matilda dad who also sold dodgy cars n bought parts online like u buy from ebay u will if keep going way ur going will end up with a bad name if keep selling dodgy cars. Many thank to u too

Had to give one start because zero isn't an option. Bought a car for my wife from Phillip McGaritty Cars and at the time was told all issues had been fixed, the problems kept occuring and their inept mechanics are unable to fix this. Spoke to Stephen on the phone who was extremely rude and incompetent. Absolute joke and avoid at all cost.
