I went to see a beautiful 2019 Blue Alfa Romeo Giulia on Saturday 22nd April 2023. Both my 11 year old son and i fell in love with the car. We agreed a price of £17450 based on what Roy Wilson the owner told me would be the VRT duty when importing to Southern Ireland. I got to the VRT office on 25th April and they told me that the figure that Roy had provided me was inaccuruate as he had chosen the incorrect version of the car when making his calculations. The figure was €2200 more than Roy had told me. I phoned him straight away to tell him that i couldn't go through with the deal. The next morning, out of courtesy I sent him the vrt figure printout that I had been provided by the vrt office. He then said he would knock off £450 and sell the car for £17000. I told him that my budget would only allow me go to £16500 and that would split the diffference of the extra VRT and after some back and forth we agreed the figure of £16500. On Thursday 27th April I sent him a £500 deposit via revolut. I then ordered the sterling draft from the bank and sold my own car. On Tuesday 2nd May Roy Wilson sent me an unexplained whatsapp message to say that he was no longer going through with the deal on the alfa. I phoned him after i finished work and he didnt answer. He phoned back and I missed him but then called him back and he said he was sorry he got his figures mixed up.. I told him that I had sold my car and had bought the Sterling but he just said he was sorry. It was very unprofessional and disappointing..Im not sure if its incompetence or else he had kept trying to sell the car for a higher price. But it majorly inconvenienced me. I also have to break the news to my son as he was super excited. I like to be straight with people but unfortunately Roy does not
