Purchased a land rover, paid my deposit on the telephone then made appointment, arrived at garage and was greeted by Vince the salesman, smooth easy process and given all information needed, they helped me with insurance quotes and also set my tax up by direct debit. Will definitely recommend Used Cars of Bristol.

I just bought a car from Used cars of Bristol few days ago and help and customer service I received from Robert was exceptional even organising a delivery of the car was not a problem for him. Good and reliable company that can help you go through with purchase in as few as two days and with amazing prices. Thanks again and whenever I will want to get a new car I know where to look for it straight away.

I drove to Used Cars of Bristol to have a look at a Jag XF I saw online. After briefly having a look around, I had a look at the car. When they eventually spotted me and came out, they asked my age and what I do, and who is paying for the car, in a rather patronising manner (I’m a 19 year old guy and they assumed that I couldn’t afford any of their cars). After eventually convincing them that I was serious and could afford their cars, they let me sit in the car. At this point the staff seemed nice enough. I said I was interested in the Jag and asked for a test drive the next day. They tried to get me to put down a £500 deposit then and there to hold the car in case it were to be sold to someone else in the next 15 hours (of course, I did not). They double, triple, and quadruple checked to see if I’d pay the deposit. After refusing a few more times to pay the deposit, they booked me in for a test drive the next morning. I came back the next morning, excited to try the car. This is the first time I’ve gone to buy a car and my first test drive. I arrived, they took me into the office to sign stuff, they then eventually moved the car round to the entrance ready for me to try it out. I got in, very excited, set off. It felt a bit strange. It was my first time driving an automatic and my first time driving a jag. I didn’t know how it was supposed to feel so continued. Got about 200 yards down the road, the car started coughing. Properly choking. It was completely out of fuel. Not just low, it was so low that the car was choking and coming to a stop. The salesman in the passenger seat seemed unphased and said we better go back. I just about managed to crawl back to just outside the dealership. The salesman then shouted to a guy nearby to bring out some diesel. The guy then put a tiny bit of fuel in, just enough for the test drive. After we set off again the car felt amazing, great car, really enjoyed it. I wanted it. I then got out the car to which (sales manager) came straight to meet me to push me to pay the deposit. I really liked the car, just needed to check with my parents to see what they think, and get an insurance quote etc. I told him I needed to sort this, and he said that I can pay the deposit to take it off the market and if my parents don’t think I should buy it, or if I choose not to, then I’ll receive the deposit back. I agreed to pay the deposit, on the grounds that I would receive it back if I didn’t go ahead with the sale. I paid the £500. I signed the order form (of which he wrote and signed a clause stating that it is only upon approval from my parents, giving me the opportunity to check with them and get their opinions before I go ahead with the sale). I got home and got a rough Insurance quote which all seemed fine. I then went through the process of sorting finance through an external company. They said that they normally take a minimum of 5 working days, usually longer. Being that I work all day Monday to Friday and they’re closed when I get home, it made the process take longer. I kept (Sales manager) informed at every stage of the process. He then sent over another form to sign (which was exactly the same as the first one), I signed it and returned it to him. Once it was nearing completion I decided to go ahead and get the Insurance fully sorted and paid for. For some reason, at this point (even though I had already received a quote that was fine) they said that they can’t insure me on this particular car. Of course, extremely disappointed I cancelled the finance application, and let know that I’m unfortunately unable to proceed with the purchase of the Jag. I then asked that he kindly return my deposit. He replied to my email saying that he unfortunately can not return my £500. Now, I found this extremely confusing, since I never sign anything without reading all of the fine print. And in said fine print, it clearly states “upon cancellation of this order, the deposit, less costs incurred, is refundable.” Now, his retort was that the car was off sale for a couple of weeks so they could have sold it during that time. I actually checked throughout the process and the car was never once removed from their website. I don’t know about you, but I don’t see any costs incurred for them. Since I cancelled the purchase, they have since sold the car. The car did not lose value during that time, so they have had zero cost. I was told that it was refundable, the documents I signed all said that it was refundable, I have kept them informed throughout the whole process, I obviously wanted to go through with the purchase however it was out of my control. They are refusing the refund me, and they are now completely ignoring my emails. About a week and a half ago I sent a final email saying that I expect the deposit within 7 working days. They didn’t reply and haven’t sorted it out. I will now this week be sending them a Letter Before Action in the post. I have read lots of reviews saying similar things about the deposit. I am furious with how they dealt with the whole process, and will be taking this further. I will not let them keep my money, and go back on their word. DO NOT under any circumstances, trust these horrendous people and this awful company. Go elsewhere!! I have since bought a car from Imperial Cars in Southampton (closer to where I live) and the process and experience was impeccable and the staff and company were extremely good. DO NOT go to Used Cars of Bristol

Avoid Used Cars of Bristol like the plague. Price of the car was increased whilst we were ON THE TEST DRIVE. When we asked them to honour the original price it was a flat no, not even a hint of negotiation. Also they wanted to add an admin charge which isn’t referenced anywhere obvious until the very end of the process. Shoddy way of doing business. Take your hard earned cash elsewhere.

Be warned... as soon as you give them your details you will be BOMBARED with 20 calls a day!! Following the bombardment, I was told my application wasn’t quite strong enough but if my wife was happy to be added to the application it would ‘guarantee’ my application (despite them not even having a driving licence). Whilst my frustration of the process is due to a refusal to lend/assist, I do feel the contact and process is somewhat aggressive and would certainly NOT recommend as a first choice to anyone looking for car finance. If in doubt, don’t bother is my advice, look elsewhere, do your research and don’t waste your time here.
