I was looking for a car, I saw one on their website and the salesman I contacted, who was terribly charming, suggested I put down a £500 deposit to hold the car until I saw it. He assured me I could get the deposit returned If I changed my mind without any problem. I trusted him and put down £500, I did change my mind 24hrs later having found another car. He also sent me a form to sign to hold the car he said. I did this stupidly without reading the small print because I trusted him. When I asked for my deposit back the manager, whom I had tried to get hold of for over a week, simply refused. He said I signed the contract and despite only holding the car for 24hr he kept my £500. I pointed out that his salesman promised me there would be no problem getting a refund but he just referred to the signed form and refused to reimburse me. I told him this was extremely unscrupulous practice. The car still has not been sold so I had not prevented them from selling it within the 24hrs and that his salesman had verbally reassured me I could get the deposit back. I told him I was just being ripped off £500. I presume this is how they supplement their income. I feel totally cheated and conned that the salesman assured me there would be no problem but then got trapped into signing the form. If he had told me by doing do I was entering a contract that would loose me my money I would of course not done so. This is very sharp practice and emphasise the widely held view of used cars salesmen. I would advise anyone NOT to put a deposit down on a car as you will never see it again, if you change your mind. I would also advise everyone to be extremely wary of this firm and its practices from my experience.
We visited the showroom at Used Cars of Bristol yesterday as they had two cars we were interested in. Despite a phone call the day before no effort had been made to make either car accessible for a test drive. Of course we wanted to test drive a car before sitting through the paperwork to apply for finance but they seemed to want us to apply for finance before we test drive either car which seems a strange way round of doing things. Despite two visits in a two hour period they did not make any effort to enable us to try either car. One of the cars we were interested in had clearly had an accident at some point, when we pointed the replaced headlight and resprayed bumper to the salesman he seemed completely taken aback that we'd noticed. You could have made a sale yesterday but lack of organisation, transparency and ability to negotiate lost it for you. We ended up spending 6k on a car yesterday, but not with Used Cars Of Bristol.
Called Used Cars of Bristol and advised them what cars I was interested in and asked if its possible to test drive, the guy on the phone was polite and said yes of course, come in this afternoon. Arrived at the garage and the sales man was very rude, not at all helpful (older guy, his desk was right by the door, tobacco on his desk, larger chap - describing where he sits so you can avoid him if you go there) I was looking at 2 cars - he advised that I had to make my mind up which one I wanted to test drive (obviously inconvenient of me to want to test drive two to compare how they drive). He then wanted to talk figures before the test drive (which is fair enough) but when the Manager came over, he was even ruder to us. He quickly told us 'its 5:40, we close at 6, do I want to buy a car or not from them'. Well I did, but i'm not spending £12k on a car without test driving it. The service was appalling. I honestly think as my husband and I are a young couple they didn't think we could afford a car. We had fantastic Service from Carbase yesterday, the guy was helpful, NOT AT ALL PUSHY and he got £13,600 from us yesterday.
We bought a mini cooper diesel from.them and had problems straight away. There was a lot of vibration from the gearbox when idling, and we got it checked out by a local reputable garage. They told us it needed a new dual mass flywheel and also new front brake discs and pads. Used cars of Bristol refused to replace these parts or pay for them so we had to spend over a thousand pounds on.the car getting it fixed. There were also.missing interior parts which they did agree to replace but despite phone calls have never done so. Go to a dealer that actually cares about their customers and accepts their legal liability for problems with the car they sold you.
It was a great value for money, looking at other cars on websites all had higher mileage or older and for more money so this was excellent. I would go as far as saying its a 7 out 5 ha. I do have one thing on going they are sorting for me so i hope to have this sorted soon.
