I recently enquired about a Audi A4 and on the phone I asked Paul all the obvious questions for example what’s the bodywork, alloys and paintwork like and just general stuff to get a feel for what the car would be like and I was told that it was in “perfect condition”so I put my £300 deposit down for the car as I didn't want to lose out on what sounded like my perfect car. But after a hour and a half journey to see the car I discovered that this was not the case. The first thing I noticed is that the front left wing and the rear bumper was a different shade of white presumably because the car had been in some sort of accident even though Paul told me that the car had never been in a accident there was also paint marks on the rubber seal on the windscreen and the passenger door was out of line with the other body panels. Yet when I pointed this out to Paul I was told that he didn’t know anything about it yet it was very clearly a different shade of white. My next problem is that the front left alloy was very badly scratched up even though on the phone I was told they were in a “perfect condition” but they were clearly not. The front left wing also didn’t not line up with the bonet. All this was setting of alarm bells for me so I didn’t buy the car and ended up leaving very frustrated that this joke of a company has wasted my Saturday and my fuel driving to the dealership when if Paul had been honest on the phone and told me the genuine problems with the car I would have never even considered the car! I really don’t appreciate being lied too and I hope nobody will fall for these tricks at Paul Whatley Cars in the future!

Sorry to read a rare negative review about the car body work which put you off, even though we offered as any garage would to get it rectified or return your deposit in full as promised if you did not wish to proceed, which is the option you chose, we take on board it should have been appraised better, over the phone while standing by the car would have been ideal as to being else where at the time things get missed on used cars which can have wear& tear by the previous owner which you and your brother saw on the nine year old vehicle after checking it in fine detail. we did come out to meet you as you was having a frustrating sat nav issue trying to reach us ,we also kept the car inside and dry so you could have a good look round it on arrival and took it for a test drive which it drove well, and finally ended up shacking hands with both of you as you left.

Purchased an Audi A4 from Paul Whatley Cars a few months back, car was brilliant! Has a few ear and tear things you’d expect but nothing major. Recently found out there was a major engine fault, Audi put it back together and Cost was covered very quickly under the warranty provided. 100% recommend Paul Whatley Cars.

Coming into the second hand car market was something I had been concerned about but the dealership was recommended as we had to travel a fair distance to the Midlands, but was assured it would be a worth while trip and it was a nice car and nice people to deal with, even picked me up from the train station to collect my Honda Civic, Thank You.

Recently bought a car from here. The rear brake started making a noise on driving within 100 miles of driving away. Turns out it needs new rear brake discs and pads both sides. The start-stop function did not work. The USB connection to the entertainment system did not work. On informing the seller of these problems, he showed no interest whatsoever, claiming it was all wear and tear and part of buying a used car. Not pleasant to work with at all. Avoid this seller who is clearly only after making as much profit from as little work as possible and does not care about safety or customer service.

Staff from Dealership in response to Avoid

Thanks for the review but i feel the wording "avoid" is a little strong as it does not reflect the over all picture of what occurred over the vehicle in question ,which had just been reduced that week only for this lady after seeing and test driving the car and commenting how nicely it was presented at the time to ask for a further discount which was agreed on the basis and written on her invoice for any wear &tear ,which when she called the following month after purchase to mention the discs had started to corrode and could do with replacing it seemed obvious that she had received money in hand for this servicing repair,as for the other matter of her stop start issue i offered to have that looked at free of charge but she replied that I dont really use the feature and i cannot be bothered to bring it back anyway.

Paul and his son were an absolute pleasure to deal with, even staying open out of business hours to allow me to collect my car. They took my old car as a PX against a beautifully maintained and presented 3 series BMW tourer. Both are very friendly and approachable, and I wouldn’t hesitate for a moment in recommending them to anyone.

I have had a few issues with my car from Paul Whatley Cars. The dealers definitely could have been more helpful. The Central locking isn't working properly and I have had to buy a new fob which still needs to be reprogrammed which is going to be very expensive. The car was in good shape when I received it and it would be good value for money if I wasn't having all these issues. I would recommend this dealership on the condition that the issues are resolved to a standard that I am happy with.

I bought my 05 golf in 2012 which was a great car. I returned to Paul to buy my Audi a3 which i am very happy with. He offered me a good deal for my budget and the car was presented well, as expected. I recommend anybody after a used car to go here, you wont be disappointed!

"Honda CR-V Cost me a fortune"

Resolving issues

Brought a 2007 Honda CR-V with 1 previous owner and FSH from Paul in September 2016 for £5595 and unfortunately had nothing but problems from the start. I have spent over £1000 and still got problems. I fully serviced the car when i received it as the car had issues starting in the cold. They picked up that the battery was at fault so i purchased a new car battery which solved this issue. (I was told this was wear and tear even though it was very shortly after purchasing the car) They also said the steering rack was leaking but Paul told me this was wear and tear. I also had to pay for a new shock absorber which burst within my 3 month warranty period (as this was also categorised as wear and tear). The car had issues with jumping on light acceleration which turned out to be problems with the EGR valve. I paid to get this mapped out and blanked out. The main bulk of the cost however was from clutch problems. I had issues with the clutch very shortly after getting the car back. Paul's garage bled the clutch to see if this would solve the problem. He did also put £100 towards a slave cylinder replacement as it was still within the 3 month guarantee. This didn't solve the problem. Honda looked at the car and noticed the fault very quickly. They suspected it to be a problem with the clutch plate or flywheel. At this point it was coming closer to the 3 month period ending so Paul offered to let his garage look at the car again. They could find no fault so replaced the clutch pedal. I did advise them of Honda's diagnosis (which cost me £45) and left them with it whilst they were working on the car but it was just the pedal assembly which was changed. Once i took the car back the problem continued, and after taking the car to another garage for a second opinion it ended up costing me £1011 for a duel mass flywheel replacement and a clutch kit. The clutch feels as it should and since the flywheel and clutch replacement i have had no further clutch issues so it would appear that Honda and the other independent garage were better at diagnosing the fault than Paul's garage. I now have more suspension problems which i have been quoted another £260 to repair. My honest opinion is as follows - I believe that Paul did not know of all the issues the car had when it was sold HOWEVER the guarantee offered on his cars does not offer any kind of guarantee that you wont end up spending £1000's of your own money to fix the car. A lot of faults are classed as wear and tear which makes it difficult to get him to dip his hands into his pocket, and after the misdiagnosis from his garage (whether that was intentional or not) i wouldn't trust them to fix the issues even if it wasn't classed as wear and tear. All the above means i am unable to give Paul any more than 1 star - Sorry Paul!
