This was a very disappointing experience purchasing and then having to return a vehicle. I purchased a 2016 Ford Focus 1.0 EcoBoost from Longton Motors (previously Motor Mall) in January 2026. Within the first few drives, the car developed recurring engine problems, including loss of power, limp mode, shuddering, and repeated dashboard warnings. I returned the vehicle twice for repair, but the same issues came back almost immediately each time. After the first return, I was informed that the wet belt had been fitted incorrectly prior to sale. Despite further attempts using different garages, the faults were not resolved. Communication and timelines were a consistent issue. The car was returned later than agreed on multiple occasions, and I often had to chase for updates. While a courtesy car was eventually provided during the second repair attempt, this was after significant inconvenience. After deciding to reject the vehicle, I was told a refund would be issued shortly after collection. However, I had to follow up repeatedly as this was delayed. I was also told no fault could be identified, despite providing dated diagnostic reports showing recurring fault codes, along with video evidence of the vehicle struggling to start. At collection, it was also suggested that the timing may have been out. The refund was eventually processed only after I set a clear deadline. A £199 “admin fee” was deducted, which was not appropriate in these circumstances. Overall, this was a stressful and time-consuming experience from start to finish. Based on this, I would not purchase from this dealer again and strongly advise others to proceed with caution.
