At a hearing on 12 March 2025, Bath Magistrates’ Court imposed a £10,000 fine on South & West Motors Ltd. The court also ordered the company to pay £811 in compensation to the victims and £7,800 in costs to Bath & North East Somerset Council, resulting in a total financial penalty exceeding £18,000.
Councillor Tim Ball, cabinet member for Neighbourhood Services, said: “We are dedicated to protecting residents. If traders misrepresent vehicles or deny consumers their statutory rights, we will act decisively. This prosecution sends a strong message to businesses that noncompliance will not be tolerated.”

Thank you, Nicola D’Ovidio for posting not 1 but 2 reviews anonymously over last night and this morning. A guilty plea was entered due to an historical clause regarding mileage discrepancies, of which the vehicle you damaged had a perfect mileage record. The fine was steep but a learning curve in complaint handling and getting everything in writing from the customer instead of relying of their word.
We applaud your dogged energy and efforts in finding a way to get a win after all this time although a return and refund at the time was not enough for you. Sometimes, there will always be someone with far more time on their hands and energy to exert. We of course will carry on serving the hundreds of customers a year who have been a delight to work for and regardless if you have moved on from this, we can certainly assure you that we have. Bought a BMW from South & west motors. Was very good communication, very professional and accurate responses as I live far from Bath. Very helpful people and very smooth business. I would happily return as a customer in the future. Best dealership I have dealt with!

I am happy with the Vauxhall Mokka, the car is nice to drive. Everything works as it should. Very straight forward and easy in buying the Mokka. Only disappointment was the length of time in getting a wheel lock key...6 days in total from knowing it did not have one to actually getting one and then on the 7th day collect the Mokka. For me, sorry was the only downfall but everything else was good. I would buy again from them as they had some nice cars at good prices.
